I love my little rice cooker, I got it for 10 bucks at walgreens a few years ago...

but yeah a rice cooker isn't the same thing as a pressure cooker..

this is the rice cooker I use...

408737-1.jpg

I just dump the rice, water, a little margarine and some salt in there and about 20 to 30 minutes later I have rice...

I think online buying will be the best, may be I was being the usual Indian self who wants to go to store and get it asap, with online buying I will have to wait for a few days before it delivers :P

I got a gamer husband who has been up all night and now he is sleeping the whole day. Our apartment is a mess because of all the shopping we did these couple of days and I am dead on that I am not cleaning it all up all alone. Ok I will stop complaining but I am itching to clean our apartment still I want him to lend his hand, do things together...........only if he wakes up that is :P

We got both our pressure cooker and rice cooker at Walmart, love them both! Hubster has to have his piles of rice every day and it is sooo convenient to just dump the water and rice in the rice cooker and walk away. It automatically stays warm for hours after it is done, so it is ready when we are. ;) I have purchased a lot of things on Walmart online too, much more variety than in the store.

Thanks ELW.

This is what we got yesterday. But I would rather have this one . So hopefully if he wakes up we can go today or may be on Monday and get a pressure cooker rather than a slow cooker :P

Walmart is great with exchanges, just go in with the slow cooker and receipt to the service desk by the front door, ask for a store credit and get that proper pressure cooker! And a rice cooker too if you want. It makes life sooo convenient (not always hanging over the stove to make sure the rice doesn't boil over - priceless!). ;)

Do you have an Aldi's grocery store near you? I saw pressure cookers in our Aldi's today for $39. Stainless, not aluminum.

Maybe I'll pot a plant in mine...I've no idea what to do with it :P

Pressure cooker is a life saver, you can't go to a indian house, cooking indian food without one.

I only used pressure cooker when making beans, those little suckers can take a lot of energy, soaking overnight, boiling over and over, specially dry beans. You take the dry beans and put it in a pressure cooker in 15min or so you are done.

But most and foremost, to make SAMBAR, you need to have a pressure cooker, I can make some really nice curry Goat in 1/4 of the time it would take using regular pot.

For rice

I've been using the microwave cooker, just put the rice add water, little salt hmm tiny bit olive oil then 15 min later you are done.

Switch to The rice cooker after the report about anyting plastic you put on the microwave will outgass stuff ends up on your food.

Gone but not Forgotten!

I always thought cooking rice was simple...wifEy tells me we need a Sanyo or Panasonic "computerized" rice cooker.

http://tinyurl.com/ricey

They range from $100 to $300 bucks.....but I've learned that she has good taste...and the most expensive is often the cheapest in the long-run.

Some day I may post pics of the bathroom remodel...including the $700 Toilet SEAT (not the entire toilet, just the seat).

Target has class a, b, c, and d stores, while our is about a square block, it's a class d and doesn't have anything, always told to go to Madison where they have a class A store. I like to see what I am buying before paying for it. Anything you find on the walmart.com website that seems worthwhile is not available in stores.

Looking for a new steam iron, wife really likes the Panasonic I got her five years ago, I like it too, but went to use it, has Teflon and the dang Teflon is falling off! I hate Teflon! Well, they are going back to stainless steel like they did for years, but no one in town carries that model, have to order on-line and either pay extra shipping or beg to have it shipped to the store. Shipping ain't cheap anymore.

Can go crazy buying labor savings devices for the kitchen, done that, while I have a very large kitchen with lots of cabinets, they fill up fast, where are you going to put the darn stuff? And are they really labor saving, some take a half a day to clean them after you used them for five seconds. So I got rid of most of it preferring a simple knife to do my cutting and a spoon to do my stirring. Those are easy to clean.

Pressure cookers are common here in farm country if you can, but that requires a garden that feeds the rabbits and deer, so do you spend thousands building a fence? And does that fence meet building codes? And what about that fence blocking the sunlight the plants need to grow? Everything today is so complicated.

Found out you don't need a pressure cooker if you eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Ha, tried chickens once, that was a bad mistake, since I wasn't growing my feed, had to buy it, ended up paying three times per pound, then my kids hated me for killing their pets and refused to eat their friends. Course, killing and defeathering them was a mess. Also found out, I couldn't eat my babies either. But they say you get quality.

And do you know what you get if you do not use pesticides on your fruit trees? Zillions and zillions of worms, guess it's a good source of protein, if you don't mind a bunch of worms crawling around on your plate.

Oh, and I also pitched my rice maker, a pot on the range works perfectly fine and can be used for lots of other stuff. Still have my mom's 40's Toastmaster waffle iron and a toaster, still works well, they don't make them like that anymore.

Wife had me chasing around the stores this morning to pick things up, you are having problems finding a pressure cooker? I was trying just to find a two quart sauce pan, the one we use the most. We purchased a set after we got married, all the others in the set look like new, but that sauce pan has been around the block a few times.

A four different stores, couldn't find even one, seems like frying pans are only sold separately. Could have purchased a whole new set, didn't want to buy a whole new set, just a stupid two quart sauce pan.

I did find a Panasonic retractablle cord stainless steel steam iron on Amazon, said eligible for free shipping and the price was only 37 bucks. Ordered it, but the e-mail invoice said 87 bucks. Canceled it and tried ordering again, was sure I only ordered one and not two, again 87 bucks, so canceled that as well. 50 bucks for shipping? Is some guy going to hand deliver it driving a Rolls Royce?

At these same four stores, every iron had Teflon, I don't want Teflon, just stainless steel, did find one, but it weighed a ton, wife wouldn't be happy with that. Maybe I will have to get her a new mop for Christmas, but no wonder why retail sales are down, only selling ####### in the stores.

don't forget Ebay.

Pressure cookers

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
