I know - this new room has really got off to an exciting start! It's like we all just filed all over again I totally hear you on the advanced notice Rae - one of my fellow August AOS filers got her letter about a week before the interview - I know that is how my visa interview worked but still... I am glad I can forget about it until the new year and then when I start to panic I will still have a bunch of time to get things organised

If anyone is interested, I am in the middle of putting up some photos on facebook of my Arizona trip in August (don't worry Agnes, you look beautiful in all of them ) and our Colorado trip just gone - I haven't even gone through the CO ones yet but that is my next job

Ohhhh I feel so excited and I can barely stand it! I think it is all the planning for Christmas and the good news and the organisingy things and I just feel really happy right now!!!

while you are logged into vj, change the email account to an email you know the password for. look under "my controls" - you will see in the lower left "Change Email Address" and then you can request a lost password, which vj will email to that account.

I have to share this incident that happened only about 5 minutes ago, that I like to call "Passive Aggressive Theater." Seems that mox does not always get the last word in!

So I'm walking down the hallway, and having just drained off the last of my Starbucks triple-shot latte, I tossed the cup into a trash can. Well...I should digress a bit. They've been doing some construction in the building and there have been some makeshift trash cans set up here and there, mostly for scraps of wood, drywall, and stuff. So I saw this barrel and thought that's what it was. I toss it in, keep walking, and this woman says "excuse me!" The following dialogue ensues:

Me: Yes?

Woman: Did you just throw your empty cup in there?

Me: Um...yes.

Woman: That's the toys and canned goods container. For the poor.

Me: (feeling like a total jackass, walking over to the barrel to retrieve my trash) Oh, jeez. I had no idea, I'm sorry. I thought--

Woman: Don't apologize to me!

Me: (looking around, seeing no poor people to apologize too, decide to let it go)

Me: Um...I just mean, I thought it was one of those temporary trash cans.

Woman: What?

Me: You know...those temporary trash cans last week?

Woman: No, I don't know about any temporary trash cans. Just try to be more considerate ok? Some people can't afford Starbucks.

Me: (stifles a "are you EFFING kidding me?!)

Me: Okay. Um...anyway, sorry. It was an honest mistake.

Woman: (turns around, mumbles something, storms away)

And then I reached in and took a can of beets back to my desk, because if I'm going to be a monster, then I should really just go all the way.

(ok, kidding about the beets.)

I mean, fair enough that she corrected you; you don't want coffee dregs all over the donated stuff... but what's with trying to make you feel bad? if you'd gotten all huffy at her and told her that all the poor should die in a fire, then I can see her being somewhat justified telling you off, but as things stand, would it have been any skin off her nose to laugh and say 'oh, it's easy to make mistakes like that; don't worry about it' or whatever? what a loser

and I think you should take the beets and put them on HER desk

(or 'the beest', as I typoed first... what an interesting concept THAT would be )

Oh and I was just talking to the lady in the office next to mine about it, and she said "oh my god, I almost made that SAME mistake this morning!" And thank god because I was starting to think that I had just imagined the temporary trash cans! Oh the horrible guilt is eating me ALIVE!!!

I mean, I legitimately felt terrible (and humiliated) when she pointed it out, and like you say if she'd just laughed it off or just given me the evil eye and walked away, I'd have felt justly chastised. But the whole "some people can't afford Starbucks!" thing was so over the top. I'm sure she's self-righteously telling all her co-workers about this awful, awful man who thinks he is better than poor people because he can just lay down $4 for a cup of coffee and then throw the leftover garbage all over their stuff. Bleh.

The "beest." Heh! From now on I'll be thinking of her as "the beest lady."
