Did you change your last name after marriage? I did not change my last name.

My husband last name is kind of weird and I did not want to change my last name to his last name. Also

I want to carry my last name to honor my family.

I do not have any relatives or family members and maintaining my last name makes me feel still close to my family members. If I change my last name, I will feel a distance from my family. I think it is cultural.

I will have an AOS interview soon. Do you think that IO will bug me about not changing my last name?

How did you explain to IO? nothing like I do not love my husband. I just did not see myself to change my last name. Especially my family wants me to keep my last name.

I decided to have two last names, unhyphenated.

I don't see why they would bother you about your last name. It is more and more common now for the woman to keep her name. If they ask you can explain why.

Some women continue to use their maiden names professionally, and some don't change it at all. I don't think the IO will ask you about it, as it's a personal decision. If it's brought up, just give the same reason as you stated here, and there shouldn't be any problem.

It's pretty common to keep your name, although I think the majority of women do change theirs (or at least add the husband's name). It won't be an issue.

Oh, and no, I did not change my name. We just filed AOS at the end of August, though, so I don't know how much it helps you to know that.

I kept my maiden name. I may consider changing it if we ever have a child- but I'm not too keen on having a baby.

It was never brought up at AOS interview. I got my GC.

Is she the USC or are you? If the she is the one applying for the green card, she needs to tell them she changed her name so they put it in the correct name. Otherwise, I don't see why it would be necessary.

My understanding is the marriage certificate is proof of name change if you want your name changed. All she had to request was new driver's license, passport, bank stuff, etc, be issued in her new name.

You might want to ask this question in the subforum for adjustment of status from work, student, tourist, and other visas. I say that because your process is different in some respects from what K visa holders have to do. I did not notice that you had an F1 visa before I answered your question. For some things that makes a difference, for other things it doesn't. You may have to submit documents we didn't, and if there is a potential for confusion because some things have her maiden name on them and others have her married name on them, perhaps you do need to include something showing the name change along with those. (Although, like I said, your marriage certificate should suffice as proof of name change.) If you were adjusting from a K1 visa, all you would have sent with your application for your wife would be her I-864 (affidavit of support) and your marriage certificate. Any other documents--to show a bona fide relationship--are brought to the interview. I think you're good as is, but you might want to ask in the subforum to check with people who know more about your type of visa.
