Even in jest, he's an idiot to mix politics with regular business. He must be rich enough to not care about his bottomline.
Now, see, I would have expected that as a liberal, you would encourage people to mix their politics with business. You know..things like:

-health care for everyone, who cares if it reduces profitability?

-increase the minimum wage, who cares if it reduces profitability?

-don't use sweatshops to produce cheap products, who cares if it reduces profitability?

-be environmentally friendly, who cares if it reduces profitability?

-give to charities, who cares if it reduces profitability?

-be socially responsible, who cares if it reduces profitability?

Those are all examples of mixing politics with business - but usually the liberals are in favour of them.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Your acknowledging of me as a "liberal" is something I certainly had never been partaking in. I don't follow any group.

Anyways, this wasn't even from my point of view. It was from the standpoint of business, not even related to government or political views.

Well, contrary to whatever it is you're thinking or implying, I would say that I regularly exercise my freedoms by taking part in right-to-life rallies.

Good ... you have a belief ... a voice ... and exercise it ...

Now ... can you actually let others have their choices and not ridicule them ... respect them? After all ... it's what you want ... and it's gotta start somewhere.

Well, I still think he's a chopf###, which is also my right. I'm not ridiculing him, per se, just his choice to deny business to someone based on their political beliefs.

you are also a chopf#ck for b!tching about his choice of customer base ... "per se" ...

extend this to ... accepting someone who is not "pro-life"... can you? or do you ridicule these ppl too?

You're such an a$$. Jenn is one of nicest people here on VJ and was merely expressing her opinion about the OP and you've got to make it personal. You have issues.

typical Steven response ... rails against expressed opinions that aren't in alignment with his own.

It's pretty clear that you lashed out at jundp because you happen to like this parking lot owner's idea and by implication, she was calling YOU a chopfukc, no?

Talk about political correctness...is it now not ok to say I dislike a person because they do x, y, or z?

I don't care what this person does with his lot.

He is not hurting anyone (other that those with sensitive feelings) ... and it's his way of expressing himself while conducting his business. The choice belongs to the patron ... to agree with his terms of service or not. If not ... move along to the next establishment (freedom of choice)

To start name calling ... well ... it opens the ball for others to join in too ... and if some mud gets splashed around in the process ... sorry

Park wherever you fukcing like. If the owner vandalized your car for supporting Obama, then sue the hell out of the moron. Because that's precisely what he is. Enough said.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Did you even read my response to you?

Natty, actually I don't have any problems with a person who isn't pro-life. For example, my husband is vehemently pro-choice and I respect him for his belief. He respect me for mine.

I think it's silly to deny someone business based on political beliefs.

I also think there are others who were much more vocal about their opinions. Perhaps it was my abuse of almaty's word "chopf####" that sparked your response?

Meh, oh well.

I'm not sure how you got from me being a smart azz about this parking lot owner to calling me a name because you don't like my opinion.

Again...oh well.

I'll rephrase. Instead of "liberal" substitute in, "given the suite of political values you have expressed on this forum," (:

If it is a private lot, it has posted policies, penalties for those posted policies, and you signify your agreement with those policies by accepting a limited license to park there, he is completely within his rights to have your vehicle towed away at your expense. Edited by akdiver

I doubt a civil rights court would agree with your interpretation of an agreement for services rendered. One thing is to have rules and conditions pertaining to a person parking his/her car and another is discriminating against that person. Either way- that kind of behavior just makes the moron look like a moron.

Looks to me a bit like panic. Gibsonville is in the bluest part of North Carolina. North Carolina hasn't voted for a Democrat for president since Jimmy Carter. It should be solid red, but isn't. Right now it is undecided but trending toward Obama.

If some guy in a blue part of NC opposed to Obama can make it a little harder for people to visualize Obama support, it does go to support McCain in a tight race. To me, this looks like an amusing bit of desperation on the part of a property owner who worries he'd have to start paying his fair share under a Obama administration.

Civil rights? Oh please. Having a policy of "no obama bumper stickers allowed" is no different than "No SUVs allowed" or "no Toyotas allowed".

Either way- that kind of behavior just makes the moron look like a moron.

Doesn't seem much smart anyway... I mean- whomever wins, he's obviously discriminatory towards one group of people, meaning he could do without their business. You would think in this economy that would be the case. People are supposedly driving less.

Man... if the guy is making at least $250K per year from running a parking lot then I am going to leave science and get into that line of work. At least at mine I wouldn't be stupid enough to discriminate against Republicans.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Why would you exclude an SUV from a parking lot? Height? Does that pose a physical limitation to the structural integrity of the lot? Perhaps. And rightly so. Hence some spaces are properly demarcated. Now... an Obama sticker. Yeah. There is plenty structural foundation to discriminate there.

This just reminds me of the kind of behavior that discriminated against people of all kinds of various backgrounds for... going to school, riding buses, etc. Bla, bla, bla. Arguing otherwise is plain old stupid.

Sorry to break to you, Maviwaro, but if your in science for the money, you've made a mistake. You'll probably make a decent living but you are unlikely to get wealthy. (I know you're just starting -- and I've been working in industry for 20 years since I finished my postdoc.) I've seen lots of business owners and managers who don't have the intellect to be successful in science do very well in business. Selection pressures are different. From what I've seen, selection pressures promoting greed, amorality, and ruthlessness are much more powerful in business than in science.
