I hate the hiccups. They are torture to me.

I usually try the usuals first- hold breath, drink water, drink water upside down (from the opposite side of the glass bending forward)

If all else fails- I go for the peanut butter.

is peanut butter code in NO for margaritas? :P

No silly- margaritas are the causes of my hiccups.

This is the cure that works for me - every time! Easy, inexpensive - and effective!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Gently rub your (closed) eyes. No kidding.

Or, if you dont mind looking silly, sit up straight, elbows out, and turn your earlobes upside down. Usually works well too.

I have the hiccups...and I can't shake it off!!!

What is your remedy?

I held my breath and swallowed three times, that usually does the trick. But not this time unfortunately.

Whenever one of my friend had hiccups, I do shock them or scare them by listening to me..

Like when I hear her/his hiccup, I tell them suprisingly " Do you know someone told that you are arrogant, ###### (or whatever nasty things that you could get his/her full attention..) and then they will answer me like," who told you that?" with an anger or amusement in their face.. Then I will keep talking to them that someone is making a gossip, until I saw that the hiccup is gone.. After that I will tell them I just created that story to let their hiccups go away,,,, and then they realized that the hiccups are gone we all ended up laughing.

My friends really like me on doing that for them, but they dont believe with me anymore, because now they know my secret  and they do it as well to somebody needs to get away with hiccups..:thumbs:

This really works, try this to one of your friend, someone did this to me..and i really had a bad hiccup that time.. it really helps!

Oh wow, this is awesome! Thanks for your replies everyone!

My Mom used to ask me what I had for dinner, then what I had for breakfast and what I had for dinner the night before and on and on...that - oddly enough - worked as well. So it's more about strongly concentrating on something else, right?

Yes it is about concentrating or diverting your attention to something else, that will make you forget or get away with hiccup.. water does not really help at all.

When I hiccup I make the worst noise imaginable. Great big horrible noises. The first time I hiccuped Platy almost had a coronary from shock! I've always done the holding my breath thing, a friend of mine always insists on drinking upside down. How she manages that I'll never know. I tried it and water ran down my face and up my nose.
