My wife attended her Oath Ceremony on February 19th, there were 899 new citizens in attendance and 29 no shows, Congresswoman Doris Matsui was the quest speaker, it was about 3 hours. After the ceremony we went to the USPS and submited her application for her US Passport. Update - Interview Passed.

Interview Date: 2/26/2009

Both my wife and I passed the interview at San Jose. Whole interview process was very pleasant. It took about 20 minutes with the officer. He asked general questions about family, visits outside USA, employer, usual questions to answer YES / NO etc. Officer was very professional and pleasant. Just had a bit tough time understanding accent. He was some asian, but somehow I managed.

Here were my questions.

1. Why there are 100 senators

2. What is the National Anthem

3. What do we celebrate on 4th of July

4. Can the constitution can be changed ?

5. Who is the first commander in chift ?

6. I Can not remember.

Thanks

My wife's N400 was received on Sept. 11.

On Sept. 23 she received notice to have her biometrics taken in Riverside, Calif. on Oct. 7.

Oct. 7 - Biometrics taken in Riverside

Sometime in November (can't remember when) - Got notice to appear for interview in San Bernardino on Dec. 9. Because she filed before Oct. 1, she had the choice of taking the old test or the new test. After careful consideration, she chose the new test, and studied super-hard for it.

Dec. 9 - Interview in San Bernardino. Interviewer asked his own questions, not from the old or new test (!!!!) I was in the room with her, and we were both mortified. But she passed. :star:

Jan. 27 - Request for two passport-style photos.

Feb. 24 - Notice of oath ceremony on March 25 in Pomona!:dance::dance:

Good luck to everybody. We hope it goes as smoothly for you as it did for us. (Well, we hope your interviewer asks you questions from the exam.)

Congrats UpNorthGuy!

What kind of question did he ask that was not in the test????

Mattr.

I can't remember them now, unfortunately. But we knew the new test (and pretty much the old test) frontwards and backwards, and none of his questions came from either.

I do remember his last question was easy -- but it almost tripped my wife up. He asked, "What form did you fill out to request citizenship?" She had him repeat it a couple of times until she looked down at the pile of support documents we brought with us and saw that it was the N-400. (Trust me, the other questions weren't so easy.)

Speaking of support documents, we brought everything they said to bring, including three years of tax transcripts. Our interviewer didn't want to see the stuff they asked us to bring! He wanted some evidence that we lived together, such as a bill with both of our names on it. Fortunately I had my health insurance card in my wallet with both of our names on it. And the interviewer swore me in and had me "testify" that ours is a legitimate marriage.

The moral of the story, I guess, is to over-prepare. Take anything and everything in terms of documents. If you end up not needing them, what have you lost?
