Not quite, but I do believe that the president of the USA in the 21st century should be very in touch with the ways in which people obtain and use information today, and how information is disseminated much more quickly and through many different mediums than it was 10, 20, and 30+ years ago. Being out of touch with modern technology in this day and age is really being out of touch with the ways in which modern society works. To say governing this country and the ability to understand and use popular modern-day technology are two separate issues is quite off-base, in my opinion.

It's all good. Folks can stop panicking now...I ordered him this....video-professor-as-seen-on-tv.jpg

Now can we stop the whole "can he use a PC " thing now? It's silly.

Jeesz! He said he was computer illiterate. He didn't say he's never heard of a computer!

Oooh, well in THAT case...

Come on.

Yeah, you know it does seem to me that up until 1980 Presidents were required to type 60 words per minute since many of the forms they were signing would be typewritten.

That's probably why Bush Sr didn't get reelected.

There are computer related challenges of this era that probably will be handled poorly by a non-computer savvy president.

1. Cyber-terrorism

2. IP Infringment Aka P2P

3. Identity theft

4. Privacy

5. Net Neutrality

Interesting tidbit, 2 friends (in Ohio) told me today they are voting for McCain. Both voted for Obama in the primary.

They are fed up with the Obama-as-savior spiel & McCain is moderate enough that they are comfortable with him. I was a bit surprised but I do think McCain will win Ohio (& the general).

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

That's O.K. because me, my 2 Brothers, my Sister-in-law, my Dad and my Step-Mother are Ohio voters and we're all voting for Obama. It's not even going to be close in Ohio.

given that congress essentially writes the laws and the president signs them, why not hold congress to such a loftly standard?
