I do not condone illegals, my husband was one, but I still think that is is wrong. But what makes me upset is the assumption that only Mexican people are illegal. There may be a white person next to you on the bus and they are an illegal from Russia, but we don't take a second look because they look like us.

Since 57% of the illegal aliens in the USA are Mexican and another 24% is from the rest of Latin America, it kind of gives people that impression doesn't it? I can't imagine why?

But who around here has ever said that Russian illegal aliens or any other white illegal alien should be exempt from arrest, detainment, and deportation?

The only people that have ever brought that lame horse up is the Tan Klan with their usual "poor me" BS rhetoric that, "If these people were white........".

But, "If these people were white....La Raza, LULAC, MALDEF, etc. could give a flying rat's azz about illegal aliens."

Am I right or wrong?

The illegal immigrant population of the United States is estimated to be about 12 million people. Pew Hispanic Center has estimated that 57% of illegal immigrants come from Mexico; 24% from the rest of Latin America and 19% from elsewhere.

charles! Affirmative Action doesn't gurantee a thing for anyone because of their race. It's soupposed to create opportunities for many groups of people, that even includes gender. You're trying to force the race issue. There have been abuses and mis-interpretation of AA, but the truth is that anyone who feels that they have been discriminated or reverse discriminated can do what minorities have done in the past...take it to court. You will find that settled case law is in your favor.

In the end I think that is really what some people are so afraid about these days. Having to work a little harder than you used to, having to fight a little more for the things you want. I guess for some it's scary having someone waiting in line behind you who is willing to work harder for less money.

BTW, try switching to Google instead of Yahoo! Then maybe you won't get a bunch of stale articles from 2002. Yahoo! is great for finding movie playing times though.

Wasn't it like 80%?

As for the groups you so warmly mention, perhaps reading their missions would help you understand the meaning of the words advancement and access [to parity with the rest of the population] of the disadvantaged. Let me know if you need any help finding that info.

The point is that the programs are not designed to discriminate based on race but rather looking at the bigger picture and granting access- something that was quite easily denied to those now receiving the right to access and coincidentally creating such a fuss with people that wouldn't have a problem making a fuss about previous years of discrimination. I wonder why.

Hi, just wanted to reply to the topic at hand. i happen to live about 30 minutes from the "bust", it has been a constant topic on local news, surprisingly not because these people are here illegally, but because of the children. most of the bread winners were sent to a detention center in jena, louisiana, where they will remain for up to a moth. they have left behind wives and children who now have no means to support themselves. most of the pictures shown were of women with children, searching for answers, yes it is heartbreaking. i have worked alongside them in the past, and i must say their work ethic is amazing.

should they be here, to be politically correct, no, but if i were an employer, i would definitely hire one of them as opposed to most americans who dont value to the hard work required to make a dollar.

:o
