You cant do it yourself!!!!! just get all the documents and if you dont work, you can ask for a co-sponsor. My fiance hired a lawyer even though i told him not to do it because he could check all the information here but he prefered to spend almost 1,000 dollars!!! and the lawyer gave him all the forms I sent him. So I recommend you to read the guidelines and your journey will be easier :D

 I believe it does nt matter whether you do it yourself or not. Its all money making they tell you you need a lawyer so the lawyer gets extra fees just to process everything. You still have to get all the paper work to him anyway. And remember all details. You should try it yourself its not difficult instead of paying $700-1000 dollars for something you can do plus this website shows you how to do it. Have confidence!

What she said. I paid a lawyer $1,000 to do this K1 thing, and all I got for that was someone filling in the forms for me!! In my defence, I didn't know about VJ when I filed, because if I had, there's no way I would have used a lawyer.

And LOL @ your cousin's lawyer saying he can get it done in 3 months!!!!

 at least ur attorney filled out ur documents we had to do our own and then paid him to put it in the envelope and send it off

hey now that i think of it thats not so funny lol

thank you everyone for your help, with all your advice, im just going to do it myself. I know i can but i just thought what i asked could maybe speed up the process.....thanks everyone.....

but i still have one question that wasnt answered......since im not working, can i still start the by sending out the I-129 packet, or do i have to wait until i start working?

I know it'll take about 3 months, so i know i'll definately be working by then, so can i start preparing and getting the forms ready to send?

and since i'll also have to file for a K-2 visa for her daughter, when should i do that? and how do i know when to file and when she can get her visa (i know it takes 6 - 12 months after her mother(my fiance) travels)?

once again thank you everybody, im going to keep on reading and researching to do this all myself. thank you ......

Well it'll take 3 months if you're lucky. Very lucky.

But send it out now. If you can get a co-sponsor for later, then your job is no big deal. They just look at your current income (or that of your co-sponsor) and not of your income over the past 3 years. Unfortunately I don't have any help for you about the k-2 visa.

Omar,

You don't need to be working to send out the I-129f. I am not working as I'm a student and used a co-sponsor.

It will take 3 months if you're lucky, but most likely it will take longer than 3 months. I'd say 4-6 months is more realistic.

Good luck.

You can file now.

It sounds like you've had a lot of misinformation. :( You simply list your fiances' daughter on the I-129f and anywhere else it asks. She will not need to wait to travel with her mother into the US. You just need to be certain she has the proper consent from the other parent. Her visa is usually issued when your fiances' is so they travel together. If a child chooses to come along later I believe they have 12 months to do so.

Do yourself a favor and read the guides, the faq's, the wiki and anything else linked to a tab above. You will come out an expert! ;)

Your financial stuff needs to be in place around step 6.

Step 4 is the 4-6 months waiting time.
