Hi to all,

Those who got a conditional greencard and traveled back in their home country, I would like to know what was your experience at the POE (immigration) when you came back to US? WHAT ARE THE QUESTIONS THEY ASKED?

Your response is highly appreciated!

I just got back from my home country. They asked how long I was in Jamaica and for what reason, and what am I bringing back (POE=FLL). I dunno if they asked me nothing b/c I was obvious petrified after flying in a storm or they had what they needed... however, that was the shortest I have ever spent w/ immigration, maybe less than a minute! B) B)

I just handed them my passport with my GC and letter on the page with my picture.

I wasn't asked any questions. Just handed the officer the passport, GC and NOA, he checked a few things on the computer, and handed everything back to me. Not a word was exchanged (other than the obligatory greetings).

US Citizen since August 09.

You posted this in the "removal of conditions" forum, so most people here have expired (or soon to be expiring) green cards and the Notice of Action (NOA) from submitting the I-751 to remove conditions on permanent residence.

I traveled internationally with my conditional card. At the POE all I needed was my passport and green card, no questions were asked.

NOA???

Ever since I'm a Green Card holder I've been asked only how long I was gone and/or what was the reason for my travelling. Sometimes I wasn't even asked anything.

I'm going to make a trip to Austria in 2 weeks and I'll travel on my expired Green Card and the extension letter - the first time I'll do this combination ever since my GC expired.

NOA is the letter that extends your conditional residence by 1 year after your GC expires.

We have traveled to Canada 2 times since getting card, each time upon returning we got the normal questions about bringing anything back into USA, and purpose of visit to Canada.

They treat green-card holders no differently than US citizens.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Once with the conditional card - I think I was abroad for 5 months. The officer just said welcome home.

Once with 10 year card - I was asked how long I was outside of the country. I did not get the welcome back/home.

I never did the NOA+expired green card. I was not worried about the US immigration - I was more worried about the airline employee abroad not knowing what to do with the NOA+expired card.

Someone on here said they treat GC holder no differently than they treat US Citizens. Every time my husband travels, with me or without me, he is taken back to a windowless and airless room and left there to wait for a stamp in his UK passport. I just get a stamp in my passport and waved through. This last time, being that I was in a wheelchair, I demanded he wait there with me in the air con and to bring him a chair while he waited. Are we being teated unfairly?

I have traveled 5 times since moving here to the US.

I have taken with me the following documents:

my passport in my maiden name

my tickets in my maiden name

my immigration ID (AP, then GC, then expired GC+extension letter) in my married name

a certified copy of my marriage certificate

I have yet to have problems doing this.

Every time we travel out of the country to visit my husband's family in the UK, my husband gets grief coming back in ie. taken to the windowless room. This last time it was "have you ever overstayed a visa?" Um, NO and regardless what difference would it make NOW with the green card?! ARGH. It's one of the main reasons we're doing naturalization as soon as he is eligible (June '09- he'll probably have his US passport before he gets the 10 year green card!)

See my timeline for all previous dates!

Naturalization:

6/28/09: Mail N-400 to Texas

7/6/09: NOA1

7/24/09: Biometrics

10/08/09: Interview

11/21/09: Receive oath date

01/22/10: Oath Date

With thanks to all the helpful people who made this journey slightly more bearable.

Never had that happen to me. I have entered with both the conditional Greencard and the 10 year Greencard and all I have ever been asked is how long was I out of the US, they stamp my UK passport and thats it.

Have you asked why he is being sent to secondary inspection? Do you go through the citizens line or the visitors line?

I have travelled back to the USA from my home country (the UK) and other countries on a few occasions and have never had any trouble. I just got back from Grand Cayman with my husband on tue and in the U.S, the immigration officer didn't even ask for my extension letter. When I returned home from the UK in 2007, the U.S immigration officer told me welcome home, which was really nice  . Its also great to go through the USC line instead of having to wait in the much longer visitor line.
