A few years ago I took 12 credits worth of Masters classes from the University of Maryland's online offerings.

I stopped because it was boring. And it didn't help either.

Needs a lot of motivation and self discipline in my experience, but it's an ok thing to do.

Really. The coursework I was taking (information assurance) was so freaking easy, it was boring. And the instructors were mostly Federal employees who had sat in an office for decades and no longer knew much of anything. Lots of process, very little substance.

Work made me take an online anger management class and conflict resolution class . . . . . sigh. I never did get that certificate.

Hi Vjmmbr,

Yes, I've tried taking distance learning courses (a full distance-ed program actually), but unfortunately could not continue/finish all of it due to financial and personal reasons since I moved here to the USA. Nevertheless, I did learn a lot while taking the courses through distance education and if I could, would continue with it later on down the road in life.

This is what I tried before: www.athabascau.ca (by the way, it's Canadian too, which as a Canadian yourself you might be familiar with, and iit is also fully accredited here in the USA too)

Hope this helps. Good luck in your studies!

Ant (A former distance-ed student...)

Anyone taking them?

If you had, is your career got improved?

I guess online classes are different than all classes being distance learning, but I took an online or TV course almost every semester the last 3 years of my college. My University was an hour away so with working part time I tried to minimize how much time I spent there. One class I had to drop b/c I didn't read enough and kept missing the TV program. I took it again later and did fine. I passed through all the online classes I had, but some were harder since you are responsible for keeping up with deadlines.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

I work with several teachers who are doing their Masters and Specialists degrees totally online. Right now I'm not disciplined enough to do that with a small daughter in school. I suppose it depends on what you're taking and how disciplined you are to do what's required.

Yes, I enjoy to read their books and work my a$$ off to death. Most of all it's help me a lot to understand other people. I do this a lot at home which is sucking my time and then I take exam if I missed 3, I have to retake my test :crying: .

i enrolled in a masters programme thru distance learning late 2007 (from a uni in sweden) and sailed thru my first module, and attended module 2 (there's 6). it is a LOT of work: a lot of reading and a lot of writing. very difficult to juggle with a full time job and wedding preparation so i quit. im not proud of that. esp since i love the things i was learning and the quality of classmates i have (definitely huge networking and learning opportunity). but i dont regret it. next time i plan to go to school it will definitely be a regular type of school tho. definitely.

I did grad work online. It was good for me with the hours I work . It meant I had no real social life but that is normal for me. The drop out rate was about the same as classroom courses. You had the same sorts there. The ones that should never have started dropped out first and then the ones that tried to get their passing grades off group projects with no input died off eventually. It wasn't actually cheap but my work over a large part of it.
