Disclosure: I am hopelessly out of the loop on American popular culture and from what I've gathered from a brief Google, apparently this is in some ways related to American Idol.

Please do fill me in.

Latest news: Green card received 16 April 2007. USCIS-free until 3 January 2009! Eligible to naturalize 3 April 2010.

The Soul Patrol are Taylor Hicks' (one of the final two contestants) fans.

Evidently he has a lot of soul. The Soul Patrol wants to make sure everyone realizes that...

Okay, so why do they call themselves such?

I feel like an anthropologist, but the photos intrigued me—this grey-haired white dude lookin' like the Reverend Al Green.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
