We use Firefox and Trend Micro. It works well, we can share the license on 3 computers, is constantly checking in coming and outgoing mail and scanning the computer, and regularly upgrades several times a day without interfering with the computer's use. It is also user friendly. You can purchase 3 different varieties with varying degrees and type of protection depending on the type of work you do and the risks you might encounter.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

The browser that I usually used is Firefox and Opera. We've been using Trend Micro for the last 4 years now. When I bought a new computer the operating system is Vista and I found out that the Trend Micro for Windows Vista is better than the Trend Micro for Windows XP.

Someone from VJ recommended Avast to me a long time ago and I've used it ever since.... it's free.

I am using, without a single problem so far in several months, Avast on my old laptop with Windows XP. Our new computer came with Trend Micro. Again no problems with that either.

If you don't want to spend money, Avast is a perfectly good solution. Using Firefox is also a good idea, but if you aren't surfing to sketchy sites, Internet Explorer is fine too. IE7 is reasonably secure.

Anything but Norton. Norton is the worst product on the market. You can NOT uninstall it without wiping your hard drive.

I've used AVG in the past, but it started getting freaky with me. I was a Panda reseller for years, and have been using it exclusively for the past year or so. It catches EVERYthing. It's more expensive than the premium AVG, but it's well worth it.

Interesting. We use Panda at work. Incidentally, Norton's corporate offices are just a few miles where I work. I'm amazed they are still in business...what a worthless piece ####### their software is...

Panda and macafee are my top choices. I don't think you need a separate software against spyware if you have panda because it seems (at least to me) to be really good with catching that too.

I bought a new computer a week ago and it came with free norton for a year...after trying to install msn messenger and connect to the internet without success thanks to it, I gave up, uninstalled it and went with AVG

Caro

Hi Caro! :D:luv: What kind of computer did you get? My new Toshiba laptop came with Norton's pre-installed and I uninstalled it as well. I'm not a fan of these anti-virus programs that are constantly running in the program...especially with Vista, which already a memory hog.

I'll add that my new Acer Extensa 5420 came with Vista as well. We also un-installed the Nortons and installed Trend Micro. My husband had serious issues a few years ago with Nortons that literally crashed his computer and he was not able to resolve the issues. He had to send it off to the manufacturer for them to do the repairs. He seriously wanted to send the bill to Norton's. Joe is a computer programmer who makes his living working with computers so when we have a problem he can't resolve it is a serious one. Norton's is dangerous.

What is best anti-virus to purchase? I have some bogus anti-virus i been using for past 2 years which has been ok untill some ### wipe got my credit card number and purchase something from internet. Now my computer is slow and also when i try to run my anti-virus it goes for about one minute then disapears off screen. I tried to call technical support but offcourse they are closed on weekends. Does anybody know of a good one i can get? Would appreciate it.

I replaced Norton with Trend Micro's PC Cillin two years ago and have been very happy with it.
