USC passport for the interview?

OK, now I thought of something...

My husband doesn't have a passport.

He was supposed to get it when we were gonna go to see my family but then he couldn't go

so he didn't.

He will do it before our summer trip.

Our interview is in a couple of weeks.

Is his birth certificate enough?

Birth Certificate will not be enough. Only countries that it is good enough for as far as I know are Canada and possibly Mexico (and that looks like it's changing soon). You should be able to apply for an expedited passport, but it costs more, and still takes some time. Have him apply right away. It can be done at most post offices, and it requires the original copy of his birth certificate (to be sent off with it, and returned with the passport), and I believe showing a photo ID (driver's license), and showing Social Security card. It can be done in about 20-30 minutes at a post office.

Is your husband the USC? Then he does not need to have a US passport. US birth certificate is his proof of US citizenship.

I don't have a passport either; mine expired in 2001 and I haven't been bothered to get a new one. I haven't planned on leaving the country. I'll get one soon, but since I have a U.S. birth certificate, I don't think it matters much. You're not ever required to have a passport just to live in the U.S.

At the actual interview, the lady only asked for my husband's (USC) driver's licence as proof of I.D.

There are lots of USC's without passports. Not a problem.

According to nyc's timeline, the husband is the beneficiary(not the citizen). He will probably require his foreign passport at the interview.

Just for information purposes: Anyone traveling to Canada or Mexico after December 31, 2006 will need a passport.

While the USC doesn't need the passport for his ID or date of birth - the interviewer asked to see mine (I am the USC) becuase he wanted to verify the dates of my travels to Colombia to meet her. In case you came here to meet him then this point is mute. Good Luck

yes, I am the beneficiary and my husband the USC.

I'm glad to hear he doesn't need one at the interview.

I do have one of course.

By the way I am amazed that our journey has had no problems so far (knock on wood)

and that I haven't lost any of the papers, etc. It's soooo much stuff!!!
