Oh, please. As long as the employers continue to get off scot-free, they'll continue to hire illegal immigrants who will work for minimum wage and no benefits. Legal immigrants and USCs want things like a living wage, sick time, and medical coverage.

You hit the nail in the head my friend. The mention in the article of "Pilgrim's Pride faces no charges" or something like that is just BS. Without exonerating undocumented workers, the companies know freaking better and choose to break their country's own laws. Shut'em down.

From the Handbook for Employers as Published by USCIS (I-9 verification)

Q. What is my responsibility concerning the authenticity of document(s) presented to me?

A. You must examine the document(s) and if they reasonably appear on their face to be genuine and to relate to the person presenting them, you must accept them. To do otherwise could be an unfair immigration-related employment practice. If the document(s) do not reasonably appear on their face to be genuine or to relate to the person presenting them, you must not accept them.

Sounds like a rock & a hard place for the employers. Just one example, but I am not looking to defend anyone, just something I had dealt with when working with an agency in FL.

Why don't they just make it easy & mandatory for hiring company to check SSN & immigration document. This must be too easy.

true. that is why i'd like to see some really stiff fines for employers who knowingly hire them.

That would be nice.It would at least nip that problem in the bud.

Poultry plant? LOL

I'll be really interested to see how many USCs and permanent residents jump at the chance to do this work. I'm sure not right away, because I bet there'll be quite some lag time as the employers figure out that they need to pay at least min wage and possibly benefits. I'd guess that no one would hop to work there while the pay continues as is...but should be interesting to follow.

I just wish that there would be reporting on what happens after a raid and followed up even a year later.

What's wrong with employers hiring illegals. You can also work minimum wage too, you know. :)

Well it's gotten to the point in some jobs that the employers REFUSE to hire legal citizens or Americans. For example, the restauraunts here have all illegals working the kitchen. One day I went to my friend's restauraunt and I asked him what had happened to all those Johnson & Wales kids he had working for him.He said theat they were not dependable and he hires who he hires now because "they are good workers and they keep their mouths shut." So that's why hiring illegals is so popular.

Have you ever been in a chicken processing plant? You couldn't pay me enough to work in one.

I wouldn't mind the raids so much if they first focused on criminals. ICE is trying to do too many things at once and not doing any one of them completely. They force theirselves into someones home while hundreds of thousands of deportable immigrants are sitting in jail costing us much more tax dollars.

I guess they will be forced to either pay for robotics or move the processing to another country.
