Hi all!

So we are getting the paperwork situated for the K-1, my fiancé is sending over his papers and should be squared away by next week hopefully-sorry if the forum gets flooded with questions this week by me! :blink:

I have searched the forums, and don't have a solid answer as to whether or not I can send just a regular copy or if I need a certified copy of my birth certificate when sending the K-1 paperwork.

I sent in a copy with the paperwork. He needed a certified copy for the embassy interview.

When filing, you can just send a copy (front & back if you have something on the back) of the certified copy. I only copied the front since my state only has a front and never received an RFE for anything. I did send my fiance the certified copy for his interview, just in case they ask to see the "originals" of the copies we sent with the initial filing.

I sent a copy of my birth certificate too when we applied for my K1 visa. In the interview I didn't need a certified copy. I think that if your Birth Certificate have a seal or something from civil registration from your country, the BC is considered as certified. At least for me I didn't need any other thing related with my BC aside to get the translation when we sent the AOS. Have nice day.

Unless the consulate asks for it - no certified copies. I sent my fiancee a copy of the petition which had a copy of my naturalization certificate but didn't send her any thing in addition to that. Good Luck

With the petition, a photocopy of a "certified copy" is ok. They need to see that the original bore a "seal" from the issuing authority.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
