I am so happy to hear he is okay. It's okay, one less thing to figure out what to do with when he leaves the country. I pray for his safety. Maybe his pastor can pray over him for a calling of angels to walk with him these days. Blessings on your life and time there.

I got a call early this morning that my fiance was robbed at gun point. It was raining and he didn't hear them braking into the house.

He was sleeping.

One held him with a gun , the other robbed the house. He thought should he scream out or not but decided not to.

They took a TV, lots of his clothes and some money and other items.

The embassy documents and his passport were thrown on the ground !!!!

I thank and praise God he was spared and the passport / embassy papers are all in tact.

He was extremely shook up and still is.

A Sierre Leonean friend of ours in Texas had the same thing happen to him when they came over on a DV lottery visa.

They robbed him in the house but dropped the envelope with $2000 right before they left the house.

It is a common thing to do these robberies and they know through the grapevine who goes for an extended trip and

figure there must be money to have for travel. We failed to see this early on and he everyone knows.

Please be very careful whom you tell about your visa journey in these countries and keep the travel date to yourself.

Get them out of there soon so they don't have to pay for a visa passport with their life after they come back from the embassy.

It is bad and many will do desparate things and hurt people with this travel to the embassy and it can be dangerous.

Again I praise God for protecting him. Please pray for him to be encouraged, he is so down right now.

Thank you Nagishkaw for your email prayer this morning and yesterday through another crisis. (L)

sorry to hear that, my thoughts are with you and your fiance

Yes, he already did come over and prayed for him. He is still in shock and has to prepare for the interview.

I just can't believe we were so ignorant of this kind of violence happening and we should have told nobody about the visa at all.

We were so excited and happy though.

I never read anything here on VJ about being careful with embassy related travel and visa in passport violence.

But yes, one is a target with it.

It seems they just know when and where to hit and even if you tell friends we have no control over who overhears those friends telling others and it spreads like a wildfire.

As a matter of fact, he told me that often when he walked through town all kinds of people would mock him and say ' you will never get the visa blah blah...'.and laugh at him. People are crazy.

He said he got so sick of hearing it.

We need to remind one another to be very careful.

I wonder if anyone else had this problem, I have been on a while and have not seened a post on this subject in the forum. I know that my husband said that once he picked up passport with visa in it. He would not take any chances and never traveled with his passport after he got the visa, said he just did not want to take any chances he traveled to and from Laogs to Contonou every other day.

My husband did the same. He locked his passport in a special place until it was time to leave and he only told his immediate family that he got the visa. Many people didn't even know that he left Liberia until he was already gone. Even now, people will randomly calling yelling at him for not telling them that he left the country. He was very worried about someone trying to rob him or hurt him if they knew he had the visa.

I think that Bassi has kept it pretty quiet as well. He talks to his cousin about it and his cousin told him not to tell anyone else because of the danger. So they both keep silent about it and in fact, his brothers know that he's pursuing a visa, as probably most of his neighbors, cause obviously his "wife" (that's what they all call me) lives abroad. But they don't know anything about where he is in the process or what he's doing. They just see him getting up and going to work every day. He did tell me that some of the people in his community ask where I am and he just says, she's at home and doesn't say anymore, so they think I live somewhere in Accra and they don't see me. He told me that he hasn't even told his brothers that I'm coming to the US in June either. They are younger and talk too much with friends. So, they'll see me when I arrive. And by the time they see me, he would have already had his interview.

bumping this thread due to Totes experience............careful BEFORE and AFTER traveling in reference to the embassy.

Some criminals want the papers, the visa and some want to extort money and some just want money that they know was needed for the trip

to the embassy. It is best to not talk about embassy visits, not even with friends, they will just tell anyone else and the bad guys find out through

the grapevine and wait for their victim BEFORE and AFTER embassy trips. Or WU pick -ups. Be careful and safe !
