Hmmm...I really never hear any beef about any Asian immigrants. Is there even much of an illegal asian immigrant problem? I'd think it'd only be with Latino countries I guess mostly Mexico. My family has suggested several times now that my fiance just buy a ticket to Mexico and walk over the border and be done with it, rather than go through all this process ####### :P

The stereotype is Asians are all hard-working geniuses, and they bring delicious food (which doesn't really resemble actual Asian food at all but we don't really care about that). Mexicans will do the ####### we don't want to do, maybe bring some salsa dancing, Ricky Martin, and delicious food (again not like the real thing but care).

It's CANADA that's the real problem. Honestly what has Canada ever done for anyone? Let's invade and take their economies and moneys! :o Problem solved! Friggin Canadians...and friggin Florida while we're at it can we please get rid of Florida.

You know the Mexico borders here in Cali and in Texas are HORRIBLE. Actually they are quite scary. The guys who sneak the illegals over here shoot at the border patrol agents. Throw rocks at their trucks and it gets really scary. Can you believe that?! They are commiting a crime and then want to get mad at the border agents who are trying to uphold the law. Just today I read that a Mexican-American agent (i can't think of the exact title) who is supposed to medically help illegals who are hurt and get caught and he is supposed to make sure they are treated fairly...well he was shot and killed by these illegal smugglers just outside of San Diego. Its a freaking war going on over here. Trust, if you lived in one of these Mexico/US border states you'd be furious as all HELL with illegals!

The "Coyotes" are really bad because they treat the people like animals and sometimes keep them as slaves,or leave them to die in the desert if they can't pay the fee.I notice many people who live in the border states are forever complaining about Mexican illegals.Here in the Northeast,most of the illegals are non-Mexican.If it's that bad that the Coyotes are shooting border patrol agents,that's unacceptable.I am angry with illegals,but I am even more so with these advocacy groups that tell them everything they do is just fine and that we are "big bad racists" for not wanting them here.

As much as I despise illegal immigration, I think a lot of this could be solved (or at least, better handled) if the current immigration system were reworked. I don't mean the U.S. starts allowing in anyone and everyone, but perhaps the criteria should be reviewed and changed some.

As it stands right now, there are only three ways to legally immigrate into the United States:

1. Work

2. Family

3. Refugee

Since the third option is pretty damn rare, we can exclude that one from most cases immediately. Work Visas are also very tough to come by, unless you happen to be a "professional" (i.e. physician, attorney, professor, or anyone with a higher degree) or able to perform some job "that no other American can." In most situations, Work Visas won't be granted, since it's a lot of extra time and money on the part of the employer and if you're not some sort of professional, celebrity or sports star, the U.S. really doesn't care about you. Finally, the Family Visa is a good one (I think it's safe to say most of us have chosen this path), but it costs lots of money, time apart from your spouse and/or children and above all, it requires that you actually have family to sponsor you!

If a foreigner doesn't meet any of the above requirements, what are they to do? Simply shrug their shoulders and give up any hope of living in the United States? In theory, that's their only legal option. In practice, however, many foreigners who're faced with this dilemma decide to "jump the border" and assuming they make it across, remain as illegal aliens.

I don't think anyone who's here illegally should be handed a green card and made into a permanent resident or worse yet, a citizen. Doing any of that makes the entire legal process worthless. Why go through the time and money of legal immigration? Worse yet, why should spouses remain apart and venture through Customs at odd intervals (like the law dictates) if for abiding by said law, all we law-abiders get is hassle, while those who consistantly break it coast through?

I think this might all be fixed if the U.S. could be a little more "open-minded" with the Work Visa. If this country made it easier for people to come here and work legally, there would be less illegal immigration overall. It would still happen, of course, but it would decline. Best of all, these people could then be taxed effectively and feelings of animosity towards "most" illegals would probably decrease. If foreigners can come here to work legally, other avenues open up for them too, such as the Family Visa. So this is a benefical idea all-around.

If something along these lines isn't implemented soon, the entire point behind legal immigration will most likely cease to exist within the next decade or so. It just won't be worth the aggravation when the same results can be achieved for far less money and without being apart from your loved ones.

Warning:

I may repeat myself. :hehe:

Let's say the ol' adage is true: "outsiders" are doing the work no one here desires.

(Yes, yes, this is not 100% true, I know I know.)

Let's say the US citizens that are hiring them do so because:

they pay them less

they do not have to pay benefits (medical, social, holiday, etc etc)

they can hire and fire at will

no protection for the workers.

Let's say the US citizen hiring them understands that he/she IS BREAKING THE LAW.

How difficult is it really for each state to figure this out?

The mega-Internal Revenue Service, who's main (and only?) function is to make sure people pay tax, cannot assist each state as well?

And people hiring (again, the US citizen) cannot request that their employee have at least conversational English, regardless of whether they have Visas to work or not? If a person is working with the public in the U.S.. I imagine English is the National language, no?

AGAIN:

It is so simple, that it is not even funny; the US government need only put in place a massive "punishment" to anyone hiring someone to work in a country they have no Visa to work in. (Yes, yes, two states have done this. Now what about the rest?)

and two:

That creating Visas for jobs that are not of the "professional stature" and that do not cost an arm and a leg, AND that are temporary (to be renewed each 6 months or a year, depending). That will document everyone. Taxes can be collected. All workers will have rights.

and three:

If, let's say, an undocumented worker gets some kind of "free pass" and is given "amnesty" to stay and continue their lives here, would they be getting residency? We all know how challenging it is and how long it takes to become a citizen if one wishes after they have come here with Visa in hand.

And if this happened, and I am repeating myself, what would we all need from the government to satisfy us?

Application fees back?

Compensation for emotional heart-ache for time spent apart?

Compensation for sheer frustration and other hardships whilst going through these processes?

Hmmmm...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Look, we can continue to blah blah blah, or we can actually put together a smart and workable plan, take it to each of our congressmen/women, and keep up the letter writing and publicity to our media. Well, actually get in touch with the media, etc.
It has seems to me that going to one's congress people is a great start.
Sitting here ranting and complaining about Mexicans and how "easy" they have it is self-destructive ("self" meaning this country).
People are doing what they feel they need to do to survive.
(It is never easy to leave one's country and blah blah...especially a great place like the country Mexico.
There is much work to be done by all of us to figure out why this is becoming a pandemic.)
They are not solely to blame. The hiring people have much to do with this situation.
Hate, rage, racism, etc have no place in logical and reasonable conversation.
Ideas and action do.
So there.
It is really all up to you.
Negative energy only eats us up.
Compassion, understanding and solutions, now there we can get on a good track. (L)
My biggest concern with illegal immigration is that while in the middle of a panic attack, state and local governments, which don't understand anything about immigration (C.'s a citizen because we're married, right? No immigration law could ever affect him!) will make dumb laws that won't actually stop illegal immigration but that will make it much harder on people who are here legally, or will throw over the rights of citizens because it might be possible that someone "Mexican" (since this thread has decided that they're the 'problem' immigrants, not the Asians or Canadians) could take advantage of it.
I support solutions that focus on employers, because anything else strikes me as making as much sense as picking up the underage college kids from the bar and driving them across the street while telling the bartender, naughty, naughty.
Again YES!
Targeting those hiring the undocumented workers may be the only solution that has a chance.
I was thinking about how landlords, banks, etc. could also report people who obviously have overstayed and are living here without Visas, etc....and then I felt uncomfortable with that thought. I really do not like the idea of making "regular" civilians into "police". Too much power will go to their heads! :lol:
Write to your congress!
Request that people doing the hiring get reprimanded.
Plenty do care, but I definitely agree that ignorance IS a major contributor to the idiot factor, particularly in this silly debate that is the Illegals Mob.
Like people will come up to me and say "What are you?" I'll say Panamanian-American,they'll say "Oh,so you're Dominican,right ? "
And although I am not pro-illegal immigration,I do not tolerate the racial slurs that are being used and I also think it's unfair how people tend to single out Latinos as the only ones who are here illegally.Once when defending my opinion to someone,they told me "Oh,just go back to Mexico."That was pretty funny since I was born in Providence.
