How do you get a service request?

congrats water! and marienmichelle!

Well, I haven't posted in a while but wanted to drop a line so people know there are others out there...

I received my EAD and AP in mid-June, since then nothing from USCIS....I went to an infopass in mid-August and they told me my file is still in Missouri and they have no idea when it will be sent to Chicago for the interview...

I have been waiting eagerly for this to end, as all of us have, but this ridiculously long process is going to end up costing me thousands of dollars because I just entered a graduate program in a state school and I had until September 30 to present evidence of in-state residency to be charged in-state tuition. Obviously that is not going to happen. I also cannot take out federal loans without the GC. In other words, USCIS really did some damage...

But at this point I'm just reaching the point of apathy...I simply don't expect anything anymore...

One question: how do people typically contact their congressperson/senator? E-mail? Letter? In person?

Thanks and hang in there everyone!

I called the help line recently and was told (by an actual immigration officer) my wife's file is still in Missouri also. In one month, it will be 6 months since she filed for AOS. She has received her EAD and AP but has not been scheduled for an interview date. Does going to an Infopass appointment help with moving this process along, or do people who have gone find it is just a waste of time?

I forgot to add that a service request was issued for my wife's file over one month ago and we have not received any update. I am wondering why they issue this request if they do nothing to investigate. Is this just a ploy to get people to stop calling or is it really a worthwhile procedure?

You can file a service request by calling the USCIS hotline. However, you usually need to meet some sort of processing time criteria. I dont know what it is for the I-485 but for the employment authorization you need to have filed 30 days under the processing time currently listed on the page. Then they will put one in for you and you usually hear within 30 days or less.

Now that I think about it...what IS the criteria for putting in a service request for the I-485??

I filed my wife's AOS at the end of March. When I called USCIS in July to find out if anything was wrong with the case, the immigration officer said nothing showed on her computer but she would put in a service request anyway. I just received the response yesterday in the mail. It said that if my wife had not received a letter about the status of her case after her biometrics, she should schedule an InfoPass appointment. We were able to schedule an appointment for 9/16.

I hope speaking to a case worker face to face will speed this process up.
