How long does it take to receive a receipt for your package?

USCIS in chicago, IL received my I-485 & I-130 packages on January 22 2008. I haven't received any letters from them with a receipt number nor my checks have been cashed by USCIS. How long does it take for them to get the package on the system and send me a ticket number so I can track it online?

I'm just worried that I haven't gotten anything. I read some posts here in this forum and some people received their ticket number in 3 or 4 days.

Can someone give me some info on that? thanks!!!

I afraid than 10 working days. We sent our package on Jan 12 and we received NOAs on Jan 28. 16 days (with holidays). If you have the track label of the registered mail from USPS mail you can check in its website if your package was already received in Chicago in the USPS.com

I waited anxiously today and still no NOA and my checks haven't been cashed and of course I have more than enough funds in my checking account. I'm filing from Virignia and still no NOA. This is really making me worried.

Does USCIS check the package first and then decides whether to continue the "process" and then cash the checks, or do they just look at the package and if something is not right then they won't cash the checks and return the package? How do they process the packages?

What worries me is that many people have received their NOA faster and I haven't. Could it be that because my wife is here on a J-1 Visa? I don't think that should be a problem, I called immigration and they said it was fine. I'm just worried thats all.

you got to stay calm , give it at least 10 working days , or if you have the tracking number of when you send it ( if you send it registerd ) you could check on line see where the package is with the tracking number

try not to worry to much ( as of yet ) cause if you let it get to you when its still kinda early ,

you will realy freak out when its time to waite for month without any notice after they resievd your AOS and you had the biometrics ,

cause from what I see it can go real slow once you had biometrics and your in line for farther processing am not saying this to scare you , but am saying this so your prepared incase you have to waite without knowing anything for over a month , just try to stay calm

I filed mine on the 17th jan, and haven't heard a thing as yet (currently 3rd feb) No NOAs, no checks cashed. All sorts of paranoid thoughts have flashed through my head, but there's little point in entertaining any of them. As far as I'm concerned, my envelope full of forms, photocopies and photos is in the best possible of hands, and they'll keep me informed as they see fit.

I wouldn't get anxious about it, i'd save your anxiety for more important things like cholestorol levels, or global warming :)
