Ok, nurses and mommy's ---here's my symptoms after having smacked the tip of my elbow on the concrete--my elbow is hot and my fingertips are ice cold. (my left hand is not cold..just the right one) and when I was measuring,,I was holding the tape in my right hand and I dropped it twice. I never drop a tape cuz it can crack a floor. I just found that odd that I might have lost strength in my hand for a second. Hmmm..I am trying to avoid going for xrays.

Jackie you really need to get it checked out right away. I wouldn't play around, if it where Lexy what would you do. Just remember that you have an inner child in you that needs the same care as you would provide for Lexy.

Allous I am so sorry to hear that you had to face this awful tragady and that your son was injured. I am very greatful to God that he handled it well and pray that he will have complete healing. You are an awesome woman and I am glad that you handled everything properly. I know when I see blood on my children I freak out. My heart and prayers are with you.

Happy Hump day all!

Please pray for us peeps....

Yesterday morning, our two year old son was involved in an accident. I had just dropped him off at daycare and was talking with his teacher when another little boy slammed his finger in the door. It actually cut the tip of his finger off! It was the most horrifying situation I have ever been in. Thankfully, the school was very quick to call Medics who responded quickly and transported us to the emergency room. We had a great doctor yesterday who immediately called a hand specialist who instructed her to immediately reattach the tip of his finger. After they discharged us from emergency, we went directly to the hand specialist who is actually hopefully that because of our son's age and good health, he may have a good chance of the tip reattaching. We won’t know for at least another week if this will happen. So please keep my little munchkin in your prayers that he will have a complete healing of his finger. The specialist has but his whole hand and forearm in a sort of a cast to help protect his finger from bumps. We will go back to see him Tuesday morning for the specialist to redress the wound and to see if it has begun to reattach. My boy has been such a trooper through the whole thing. He was such a big little man yesterday and handled it much better than his mom did! I am to give him some high-powered antibiotics to lower his risk of infection which is what the doctors are most concerned about right now. He has been eating very well and the cast has not slowed him down ONE BIT!!!!

Bless his little heart! I will pray for a speedy and painless recovery for your little one. Sign his cast for Ahmed, Baby Mehdi, and I with lots of love. What a frightening experience for you and he.

If it helps any, I chopped off the tip of my finger in a food processor years ago. They stitched it back on in the ER and it healed nicely.

Preggasaurus Rex says go to get Xrays now. Sounds like you're developing quite a hematoma in your elbow from the collection of blood. And something is messing with your circulation. Go get xrays now. Preggasaurus Rex says so.

It's very comforting to hear you say that these injuries healed up. :)

I've been thinking at the VERY worst, if he did lose his finger tip, at least he still has complete mobility of that finger. It could have been so much worse.

did you tell your husband yet? what did he say? i bet he's frantic about it!!!!!

Yes. I called him once we had met with the specialist and were on our way home. I knew that he would freak out so I was as careful and calm as I could be when I told him. The first thing I said was, "Our son is okay, but he's had an accident today." I kept telling him he was okay. But he started freaking out. We talked about an hour later online so that I could go into more detail. He told me then that when he heard me say "cut off", he said he didn't hear any English words or Arabic words after that. He just didn't hear anything. BUT, he said that after talking to me online and hearing that my voice was calm, that made him calm because he knew that if something was really bad, I wouldn't be talking. He was freaked out thinking that he might be disabled. I really had to "talk him down" and let him know that even if it didn't grow back, he wouldn't be disabled.

He does not handle emergency situations well. It's almost a blessing in a way that he wasn't here because I would have been having to calm both my son and Hicham.

What helped the most though was while we were talking online, my son came out and said "Bye, Daddy". Hicham nearly cried because he said he could tell that he was doing okay.

awwww

I would do something about the daycare if I were you. There should be safety precautions in place so that things like this don't happen. What kind of door takes off part of a finger??? I've had doors close on me but not sharp enough to sever off part of my hand for Pete's sakes!

Actually, it was a wood door. One of those split doors where the top opens while the bottom part could be closed. I think it was really a freak accident. The toddlers in his classroom are always opening and closing the door and my boy does the same thing at home. The teacher and I were standing right there only a few feet away when it happened. It happened so fast that I don't know what we could have done to stop it.

The hand specialist that we saw yesterday said that he sees this ALL THE TIME. He said the heavy metal doors in the daycares and schools are the worst and usually completely amputate the finger(s).

I'm not upset with the daycare because they really handled it well. Within seconds of the accident the teacher was on the phone to 911 and another teacher from the next classroom came to get the kids and move them into her classroom. They really love my son and were crying when I went back to get my car and get my boy's coat and his favorite stuffed doggie.

But...I do appreciate your concern. :):):):)

Wow I didn't realize it was so common!!! That's like when I lived in a different town our house was across from a physical therapist who was yelling at her kids one day because they snuck into the neighbor's back yard to play on the trampeline. I asked her what the big deal was and she said you wouldn't believe how many ER cases involve trampelene accidents!!! Well that is great that they were so responsive!

Ok, I was staring at my elbows in the mirror  trying to talk myself out of Quick Care. And I had....til I just read all your posts again. OK, I'll go. But I promised myself a Caramel Macchiato when I am out of there!

Last year when I hurt my foot, I didn't listen to my VJ buddies. I waited 3 weeks and ended up in a cute purple cast. So, I appreciate all your friendship and will see ya's when I get back.
