Please pray for us peeps....

Yesterday morning, our two year old son was involved in an accident. I had just dropped him off at daycare and was talking with his teacher when another little boy slammed his finger in the door. It actually cut the tip of his finger off! It was the most horrifying situation I have ever been in. Thankfully, the school was very quick to call Medics who responded quickly and transported us to the emergency room. We had a great doctor yesterday who immediately called a hand specialist who instructed her to immediately reattach the tip of his finger. After they discharged us from emergency, we went directly to the hand specialist who is actually hopefully that because of our son's age and good health, he may have a good chance of the tip reattaching. We won’t know for at least another week if this will happen. So please keep my little munchkin in your prayers that he will have a complete healing of his finger. The specialist has but his whole hand and forearm in a sort of a cast to help protect his finger from bumps. We will go back to see him Tuesday morning for the specialist to redress the wound and to see if it has begun to reattach. My boy has been such a trooper through the whole thing. He was such a big little man yesterday and handled it much better than his mom did! I am to give him some high-powered antibiotics to lower his risk of infection which is what the doctors are most concerned about right now. He has been eating very well and the cast has not slowed him down ONE BIT!!!!

Oh my God how awful!!!!! I would have been a complete and total wreck!!! Poor lil pumkin give him lots of kisses from his mena aunties!!!!!!

I'm looking at this camel's teeth, and wondering... what do they eat? I thought they were herbivores, but they also have some wicked sharp looking teeth

Leaf eaters have teeth like scissors, and have dentition sharper than carnivores-- so looking at that, I just figured although they probably are mostly dealing in grasses and sedges and they also probably hit the leaves enough to have that dentition.

I am sooooooo sick of this winter! I fell down! Now normally, I would bounce back up, dust off the snow and go on. I fell next to my car and hit my dang elbow on the concrete. I have a purple-ish bump the size of a golf ball on my elbow. It hurts so bad, I can't lay down. It is 2am and I am sitting here almost in tears. It happened about 4 hours ago. Can't soak it, so what can one do about an elbow? Any nurses or mommy's around?

jJ

Jackie, you REALLY NEED to go have this looked at. I have a close friend that did the VERY SAME thing years ago. She slipped on ice and hit her elbow. She had a hairline fracture and didn't know it. She let it go without seeing a doctor for several weeks until the pain became beyond bareable. The muscles had become damaged somehow because of the fracture and she ended up having to have surgery and having the bone scraped and having to have all kinds of physical therapy for it and it has never been the same.

I would go get an xray NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck!

Jackie-- aggree :) Allousa is probably taking about a blood leak from the boane which will become a hematoma and calcify, including muscle tissue within it (just so we can all feel sick and panic about it :) )

ETA-- Allousa-- hopefully he will be fine :)

awwwwwwwwww poor little boy! sorry to hear... i cut my fingertip off at work before and its grown back too! maybe it wasn't as far down as it sounds like your son's is...but i think he'll do just fine! *hugs*

jackie- go get an x-ray if its hurting really bad! i hope its fine and just bruised!

ps. that moment of truth show had so much potential for me...but i hated how they dragged it out with the answers... "the answer...to...that....question....is............................................

.............TRUE!"

oy vey! they could have packed in twice the questions if he would have spoken normally! i'll give it a shot again tonight but i have little patience for that. hehe

All the classes I went through with the Red Cross finally paid off yesterday. After a few seconds of terror and shock, I went into "mom" mode and grabbed him...squeezed his finger tight to help stop the bleeding and held his arm up. It seemed like it took forever for the medics to arrive when it was probably just 10 minutes.

I couldn't sleep a wink last night because I just kept seeing that image over and over in my head.

I know you moms here can relate that nothing rips your heart out more than something happening to your children.

Thanks for your prayers! I'm comforted to know Jen that your's did grow back. His finger was cut at an angle basically, right under the nailbed and to the lower tip. The specialist said that if it does grow back that since the nailbed is completely in tact, his nail should grow back to.

pretty much exactly what happened to me..and my nail grew back too...although it looks SLIGHTLY different if you want to get picky. ;)

My little brother burned the tip of his finger off at that age and it grew back. The nail doesn't really grow on the left side of his finger and you can see a faint scar line where it grew back underneath, but it really is normal and he burnt part of the finger clean off. Actually he's a baseball pitcher now and since it's on his right hand (for throwing) he says it's his good luck finger :P

It's very comforting to hear you say that these injuries healed up. :)

I've been thinking at the VERY worst, if he did lose his finger tip, at least he still has complete mobility of that finger. It could have been so much worse.

About 3 months ago we started trying to get Hachemi's transcript from Ferhat Abbas University in Setif. My MIL hand delivered the release for the transcript to be sent to World Education Services. After many trips to the University the man would not do it. He wanted a bribe. I guess his idea was since Hachemi was living in the USA he must be rich. The college where Hachemi is going now only admitted him on a conditional basis, and even though he qualified for student aid or student loan they was holding it hostage until the transcript was received. Anyway. Hachemi's dad has a friend that knows the director of the University very well. When the school started back up at the first of the year the man that was supposed to send it was relieved of his duty and a new one was in his place. We found out today that the university had translated his transcript into English and sent it Express UPS. I am so glad cause time was running out. We only had about 3 more weeks to get his transcript to the college. I guess it is good to know somebody that knows somebody.

Jackie, I did the very same thing to my elbow. I had it xrayed cause it hurt so bad. It wasnt broken, but it took weeks for it to feel better. That is a very tender area to injure. Hope it feels better soon.

Allousa, I hope your little guys heals quickly!

Noura, the Budweiser chicks are hilarious!

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Yes. I called him once we had met with the specialist and were on our way home. I knew that he would freak out so I was as careful and calm as I could be when I told him. The first thing I said was, "Our son is okay, but he's had an accident today." I kept telling him he was okay. But he started freaking out. We talked about an hour later online so that I could go into more detail. He told me then that when he heard me say "cut off", he said he didn't hear any English words or Arabic words after that. He just didn't hear anything. BUT, he said that after talking to me online and hearing that my voice was calm, that made him calm because he knew that if something was really bad, I wouldn't be talking. He was freaked out thinking that he might be disabled. I really had to "talk him down" and let him know that even if it didn't grow back, he wouldn't be disabled.

He does not handle emergency situations well. It's almost a blessing in a way that he wasn't here because I would have been having to calm both my son and Hicham.

What helped the most though was while we were talking online, my son came out and said "Bye, Daddy". Hicham nearly cried because he said he could tell that he was doing okay.

awwww

I would do something about the daycare if I were you. There should be safety precautions in place so that things like this don't happen. What kind of door takes off part of a finger??? I've had doors close on me but not sharp enough to sever off part of my hand for Pete's sakes!
