Ignore them.

I don't care what people think about my relationship, they're not sleeping in my bed with me.

Fortunately, I have not had very many bad experiences, but everyone thinks my husband used me for a green card or to come to America. I tell them that he probably wanted to come to America or go anywhere for that matter, but it still does not negate the fact that he loves me.

Ignore people and their comments.

I've never really had problems but typically when someone makes any type of ignorant comment to me I tear them apart so bad they feel worthless. I'm mean like that. But if someone were to suggest my husband just wanted a green card I would just laugh at them and then tell them to get a life and stop worrying about mine.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

You know I used to worry about that. Now I just laugh about it.

Rather than getting on an argument, how about making a joke of it. Try this - tell them you took her green card and locked it up in a bank safe deposit box and only you had the key. Then, while they're thinking about that, tell them you lost the key!

If that doesn't work you can go on the offensive. Tell them they sound like they must have had bad luck with women and maybe you can help him find a good one! :jest:

That's OK, just change the wording. Look, people who say stupid things like that are just ignorant. They're going on some stereotype, or something they saw in a movie. You're not going to change their attitude, so all you can do is laugh at them. If they want to get to know your spouse, they will see the truth.
