Another rich actor self destructs on drugs. Boo hoo hoo. :crying:

Have some respect, Gary. Death of a 28-year-old is always tragic.

Using drugs when you have a 2-year-old child is tragic. He made the child a victim when he made that choice. It was his choice and his responsibility.

It could have been an accidental flippin' overdose, for crying out loud.

Sure, an overdose could be accidental, but the choice to use drugs was his.

That's enough now. Thanks.

Okay, No one knows exactly what killed him, or whether it was accidental or intentional, nor do they know if it was OTC drugs or prescriptions drugs. Regardless, this is not the thread to discuss this - many members here are shocked and saddened by the news and continued comments such as these do nothing for this thread.

So, I respectfully request that we keep this thread polite AND respectful. Thanks.

 not the time for a comment like that...

Ledger was taking sleeping pills after completing I'm Not There, in which he played one of the many incarnations of singer Bob Dylan.

He told The New York Times in a November interview that he "stressed out a little too much'' during the Dylan film, and had trouble sleeping while portraying the Joker, whom he called a "psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy".

"Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," Ledger told the Times.

"I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going."

He said he took two Ambien pills, which only worked for an hour, the paper said.

yeah, that is what i was just reading..

A police spokesman told smh.com.au the cause of death was unknown, despite the presence of drugs.

"We don't have that [the cause of death] yet. The matter is still under investigation," the spokesman said.

I know I'll probably regret coming into this conversation, but...

The fact that Ledger was using either over-the-counter or prescription medication (instead of illegal drugs) speaks volumes here. Yes, every substance you put into your body can (and often does) have a side-effect; however, it's not the same thing when someone dies from accidentally having one too many Tylenol or a bad reaction to Penicillin versus doing Heroin or Cocaine.

We generally trust that OTC and prescription medications will be safe for us to use and in most cases they are. There are, of course, certain circumstances which could lead to problems arising -- such as not taking the medication as directed, allergic reactions or combining poorly with other substances. We don't know all of the details and if some of the newer reports are true that Ledger had pneumonia at the time of his death, that could be the culprit right there.

So before we all jump on the "Heather Ledger should have known better" bandwagon, let's just take a wait-and-see approach for right now. Until we have all the necessary facts surrounding his untimely death, we shouldn't make absolute statements.
