You are posting to a 9 year old topic.  Hope you are not expecting them to reply.

With that said WU is one of the worse.  XOOM is better that WU still a little costly.  REMITLY is better than both, no transfer fees and better exchange rates.. and no one gets "slammed" for mystery fees when picking up.

I used XOOM  for a few years before I found REMITLY, now they are the only service I use.   Here is a link to REMITLY, sign up with this link and you get a gift certificate once you complete a transfer.

There is no transaction fee with remitly if you want the receiver to wait 3 days for the money.

But like you said WU is one of the worst to send money and worse even to deal with if there is a hiccup or problem. The posted transaction fee for WU is only if you go in person to a location and pay with cash. While the WU internet fee is ALOT more like $50-100 for one transaction.

Yes I know... I have been using them for years.  Even if you want the money instantly the fee is $1.00 less that XOOM and the exchange rate is still better

WU is probably the worst. I have had bad experiences with Xoom so I refuse to use them. I send every 2 weeks using LBC. I go in person because they have several offices here. My very good friend who moved here from Philippines uses World Remit. You can download the app on a cell phone and send away. The exchange rate is a little lower than LBC but their transaction is lower. I find that is usually the difference between sending online vs in person. When calculating for myself it is less expensive to use World Remit, however my fiance is used to LBC now and doesn't want to change. The one nice thing with World Remit is that before you send it tells you the exact amount in USD that you will be charged and the exact amount of PHP that hey will receive.

World Remit isn't too bad, fee is lower that XOOM , exchange rate is good.   For larger amounts it would be the better choice.   Not sure where the break point would be between World Remit and REMITLY

We send 260.00 a month back to wife's family. It costs $7.00

Costs, is that a fee plus the exchange rate difference from prime?

Seems costly for only $260.00

that is the cost of sending the money in US dollars, they get a better exchange rate there.  7.00 is costly? Really? that's like to ATM transactions.

So that isn't the true cost to get the money into a person's hands, there is still an exchange rate to consider in the "costs".

For years my husband used wester union to send money to me when I was still in the Philippines and he said if he saved the fees that WU charged him, he could have used that money to buy more guns for his collection. ;) Now that I'm here, we use Xoom to send money to my family. It's hassle-free and consistent with their rates. I have friends who used Wellsfargo when they were still there in PI.

You need to check out REMITLY  if you hubby likes saving money for guns...  no fee for the 3 day service, and for instant transfers the fee is a dollar less than XOOM.  And the exchange rate is better too boot with REMITLY.. win-win all around.

I use the 3 day, no fee service.. works great.   Try REMITLY

At one time we used Transfast https://www.transfast.com/philippines/send-money and found their rates to be some of the lowest and fast remittance.  Their rate is $1 to 48.64 PH pesos.

We now use our bank Wells Fargo and have been for years.  VERY reasonable rates for a bank and easy to use.

Doesn't Wells Fargo nic you for about $5 a transfer, plus their exchange rate?

Transfast has a good exchange rate and a 0 fee service also, but they pull the money 3-5 days before transferring.  Remitly doesn't "use" your money for 3 days then transfer it, they pull it the same day.   I will keep Transfast on my list as they are a possible.
