God, I wish. Not a chance in hell though.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

Getting Fees paid to one branch (USCIS) deducted from Fees paid to another branch of the federal government (IRS), this is like trying to take a deduction for taxes paid.

No way in hell.

Immigrations is not deductible.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Unfortunately, they are not deductable. What could be deducted is if the USC moves due to a job change (more than 30 miles), and this sometimes does happen as a result of their international spouse/fiance coming and settling in a new city.

If anyone is interested, there is a site that offers free tax software to file your Federal taxes. I've been using it for the past 3+ yrs and find it much simpler than the ones at the store. (HR block & Turbotax both created errors in my tax return when I've used them!)

I remember when they raised the immigration fees, they said they did it because they didn't want the tax payers to bare any of the burden paying for people who immigrate legally to the US. However, they make the tax payers pay an amazing amount supporting illegals. (At least here in AZ).

I always thought it was strange that people in the military have to pay income tax on their paychecks when their pay comes from tax payer money.

What a tangled web we weave :jest:

Why shouldn't the folks in the military pay income tax? Its their income as is yours from whatever job you have. The fact that its tax payers money has nothing to do with the income taxes for the individual earning it.

Speaking of taxes, I would like to claim my wife as a dependant on my taxes. The only problem I can see with that is that she doesn't have a SS# yet. We are waiting on her AOS to come through to apply for it. Any suggestions?

You can still file married filing jointly, and you need to get a tax ID# in the meantime until she gets a SS#.

How can we get her a tax ID#?

You may not be able to get an ITIN since your wife may be considered eligible for an SSN. The only thing you can do, is try to push off filing as long as you can, and then file once you have her SSN.

That may not be the best option, but if your status has changed from single to married, then you are likely due a rather sizable tax return.

I have no sympathy, sorry. I pay my taxes every 2 weeks and I only take the standard deduction. I am not eligible to write off anything. We all make our choices.
