Has anyone started the green card process after getting married without legal help? Our lawyer is a complete waste and could really use some help to get the process started ASAP

Most people K-1 holders here work on their own AOS without legal help :)

G-325A is no longer needed. Filing fee is $1140 + $85 for biometrics. EAD and AP fees would be waived when filed concurrently with the AOS.

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

I did the AOS from within the US without the help of a lawyer.

 

Put it this way...the lawyer you will be paying a ton of money will only fill out the form.  They won't assist you in gathering the documentation you need to submit, they won't assist you in obtaining any originals or certified copies of documents from other agencies you may need, they won't assist you in photocopying everything, they won't assist you in organizing your documentation, they are not allowed to speak during any interview they accompany you to in the future, they won't assist you in anything involving translation should your documents require it.  They will only tell you that "you need to do this and that".   Which is the exact same information you can find yourself for free on the USCIS website and in the application instructions.  So, what exactly are you paying them for?

 

If you have a good command of English, you should have no problems filling out the form and answering the questions.

This is a DIY site, most people here go it alone, unless they have a really difficult case needing  a waiver or a criminal past etc..

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Did everything ourselves for the AOS packet and just waiting for either interview or approval of I-485. Overall simple process really.

08/15/2014 : Met Online

06/30/2016 : I-129F Packet Sent

11/08/2016 : Interview - APPROVED!

11/23/2016 : POE - Dallas, Texas

From sending of I-129F petiton to POE - 146 days.

 

02/03/2017 - Married 

02/24/2017 - AOS packet sent

06/01/2017 - EAD/AP Combo Card Received in mail

12/06/2017 - I-485 Approved

12/14/2017 - Green Card Received in mail - No Interview
