Length of Interview Process for K-1

My fiancee and I are going to Montreal for her interview. Her interview is around 8am, and we are considering flying at around 1pm the same day. Does the interview take more than 2 hours? How long is the entire process once you walk into the embassy and when you are completely done?

It differs but most people seem to be out by 10am. My husband has his interview last year at 8am and was out by 9am, he had a train booked for 11am.


Now make sure to read the around the canada forums about getting their early. The quicker you're there AND in the right location the quicker you'll go.

The biggest tip is: "You line up on the side where the yellow posts are. If you line up on the other side they make you goto the end of the line when the door opens."

Basically there are two doors, double doors, obviously there is a left one and a right one, You're going to want to line up by the left door, where your back will be facing some yellow posts and you'll be looking at the door.

my appointment was 9:30am,arrived at the Montreal office half an hour earlier at 9, out of the office by around noon, interview itself took about 5 minutes

I just did the interview on the 14th and it took me a solid 2 hours. Honestly don't try to rush this kinda stuff you never know what's gonna happen.

My appointment was for 8:30 but since I arrived in that morning at 2am I decided to go early to my appointment which worked out in my favour. I arrived to the consulate at 7:10 where there were already a handful of people lined up waiting. The doors opened just after 7:30 where we were let in one at a time. Even though my appointment was not scheduled until 7:30 I was given a number and ended up being the first K1 interview of the day. I was in and out just before 8:30. So I would recommend arriving early, don't bring any back packs or large backs as they will turn you away to go lock them up elsewhere and make sure you are organized. During the first portion where they ask for documents don't be afraid to offer more if you have it as they will take it even if they didn't ask for it. The actual 'interview' portion was very quick and just some fairly basic questions. I flew out that same day at 4pm so a day trip is doable just give yourself a good window.

Occasionally they make people who are too early come back later, but Montreal is pretty good about being first come first serve. I made my 2pm flight easily on my interview day.
