Hi All,

This post is very helpful as I am having the same issue, whether it`s smarter to buy a one way or a round trip ticket.

1). One way or round trip?

My husband`s parents are flying in from Belgrade --> Frankfurt --> Chicago on a round trip flight, but we will cancel as soon as they arrive.

One way ticket was $1500 per person & the round trip was a LOT cheaper, $650 per person. We bought the round trip flight to save us some money. We are also a bit afraid because they are MOVING to U.S (IR-5 visa) and when they arrive to Chicago, the customs officer may question them why they bought a two way ticket when they are moving to US and coming in on a immigrant visa. I would love to get some thoughts from you guys!

2. Wheelchairs - good or bad idea due to Medical Exam at the time of interview???

HIs parents also do not speak any English, so we thought it would be a good idea to get the wheelchairs for them so that somebody can assist them getting to and from gates as this is their first time flying and it can be very difficult for somebody that has never flown before. They had their medical exam during the interview and both were super healthy. My husband is a bit worried if the wheelchairs will give them issues at the POE. If you guys think this is not a good idea to have wheelchairs, those are easy to cancel. I was wondering if any of you were in a similar situation and could help .

I would appreciate all the help!!!!!!!!! Sorry for such a long post.

Answers:

  1. Purchase whatever is cheaper, CBP won't care. If you do purchase a round-trip ticket, cancel the return portion after they arrive.
  2. Using wheelchairs will not present an issue.

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

Feb 1st 2016 - Sent more in-depth info on assets as requested. Received the next morning

NVC Received : some dinkelsberry yehoo in the house of clingons send our petition to the wrong consulate.

Consulate Received : July 30,2014 Transfer to right embassy complete.

Interview Date : Oct 22, 2014

Interview Result : AP , requesting another PC (not expired) and certified divorce decree (was submitted)Stokes interview via phone for petitioner 4 hrs after interview.

Oct 23 email notification visa approved.
Visa Received : Nov. 3 , 2014 VISA IN HAND.

US Entry : Nov. 21, 2014

Marriage : Dec 27, 2014

AOS send : May 12, 2015, received May 14, 2015 USPS priority

Sept. 21 Interview, 2 hour interview, we were separated and asked about 50 questions each for an hour each. IO was firm but professional, some smiles.
Several service requests made, contacted Senator and Ombudsman. Background checks still pending.
July 21, 2017 HOME VISIT.  Went well. Topic thread in AOS forum.
Waiting to skip ROC and get 10 yr GC due to over 2 year while pending AOS
AOS APPROVED Oct. 4, 2017 * Green card in hand Oct 13, 2017 !!!!!

First K1 denied after 16 month of AP. Refiled. We are a couple since 2009. Not a sprint but a matter of endurance.

When it comes to the tickets; book whatever is the cheapest for you! It's irrelevant to CBP what ticket you have. Just make sure you cancel the flight back!

01/13/2016: I-129F filed  07/15/2016: K-1 visa in hand
10/13/2016: Filed AOS + EAD/AP.   07/07/2017: Permanent resident (Conditional)
04/16/2019: Filed ROC  11/17/2020: Approved. (10 yr GC)
