Why is everyone getting a request for a new medical? Doesn't the instructions on the form (I-693) specifically say that if you came on a K visa and had the medical completed within one year of the time you filed form I-485, you are not required to have a new medical so long as you have your vaccination record (DS 3025)? It does not say that your application has to be approved within 1 year of the medical. It says that it needs to be submitted within 1 year after the medical.

Or am I missing something?

Starting June 1, 2014, USCIS will limit the validity period for ALL Forms I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, to one year from the date of submission to USCIS. Applicants must also submit Form I-693 to USCIS within one year of the immigration medical examination. USCIS will also provide additional ways to submit Form I-693. As outlined in policy alert PA-2014-005, this updated policy applies to any Form I-693 supporting a benefit application that USCIS adjudicates on or after June 1, 2014.

_{So basically, since USCIS is unable to process documents for paying customers within normal processing - they are going to impose an additional $300.00 cost on said customers due to their inability to provide customers with what they paid for within their specified timeframe? It is my understanding that these exams costs about $250.00 - $350.00 up here. It is also my understanding that form I-485 I supposed to be processed within 8 - 10 months, depending on the office processing your document, according to their processing times. Finally, it is my understanding that despite the processing times that they post on their websites, they are verbally providing a timeframe of 12 - 18 months to process form I-485. Am I understanding this correctly? I hope I am misunderstanding something. I do not see how it is possible for a company that is not government funded, but funded by paying customers, to offer a service for a specified price and due to their inability to perform according to what they advertise - the customer incurs additional charges. I am not saying that I expect them to perform within the timeframe they provided despite how much I would appreciate it if they did. However, I do not see how any company can impose an additional cost on a customer due to an error or inability on the company's part.}

You should have done Tier 2. They have the same access to information as the people who answer your e-requests.

The request online it will take about a month for an answer.

Thank you, Girl from Celebes. I spoke to a Tier 1 agent who confirmed that the case is outside normal processing time and asked for the same info that the e-request form asked for. Will post updates when we get them.

True. I did not expect they will give me respond quickly when Tier-1 put my service request. I even had lost my confirmation number. Luckily I called on May of 15th and received RFE on May of 22nd. Edited June 18, 2015 by Girl from Celebes

My husband paid total $395 for my new medical. It included TB test, blood test, two vaccinations ( tetanus and varicella) and X-ray.

This is bull. We filed 5/14/14 and got NOA 5/20/15. Overseas medical expired 2/5/15. This should not apply to our case. I filed prior to this stupid validity period rule.

I truly do not understand how they are legally able to do such a thing. Especially given our country's current status regarding immigration matters. It seems extremely unjust to impose an additional cost on consumers who are following the law and paying for a service, and then turn around and blame a heavy work load and inadequate staffing as the cause for the backlog that pushed the consumer's application into a time frame that would necessitate such additional cost.

Got my potential waiver letter dated June 11th, three days after the two months from the NOA of the RFE documents that we had sent in (again!) so assuming that this is what triggered the letter, or my phone call to USCIS on 8th June.

This whole medical validity stuff is a joke, fortunately I did another medical after I got here so should be alright in that respect but this whole processing time scenario is a mess. Might get in touch with my congressman as well.

When you are trying to contact whether USCIS or congressman within range waiting for 6 months, you will have nothing. I called USCIS May 1, 2015 and one of their agents told me that my case is still in normal processing times.
