I got to thinking about this whole CSC mess, where DACA is getting preferential treatment over people doing things legally.

If a petition is created to the White House and gets more than I think it was 25,000 signatures, it's something they will publicly address.

Think we could get the numbers?

November 14th, 2013: She's here!

December 12th, 2013: Picked up marriage license.

December 14th, 2013: Wedding

I think the number needed is higher now

There probably aren't enough people on VJ to make it

Also, there is surprisingly a large fraction of VJers who actually feel that DACA filers deserve their paperwork processed faster than K1 applicants.

Yep, what Bayareaguy said.

The numbers don't add up.

That being said, if you word it in a way that would give the petition wide appeal (as in someone who isn't involved directly with the visa process would read it and want to sign), then it might be worth a shot.

May I suggest an alternative:

Instead of sending a petition to the President send the petition to the Director of the CSC. Despite what a number of people have said about the amount of care CSC has for the the K1 filers (most of which I think is true by the way) the Director is much more closer to making something happen. The Director was given a direct order by Janet Napolitano to implement DACA but I'm sure he/she wasn't told how to implement it. I'll bet sacrificing K1 filers wasn't even his (her) idea. Normally someone in that position would ask for proposals from their staff and approve. Another member of vj has provided IMO undisputable evidence that K1 filers have been singled out to bear the brunt of the DACA onslaught. The director knows what's going on and is far more closer to what's going on with the K1 filers than the President. All the Director has to do is 1. recognize that the K1 filers have suffered enough already and 2. shift the burden from the K1 filers to some of the other types of cases. He/She has power to do that. Now our numbers (supporting an appeal for MERCY)start to have more relavence.

Just my thoughts.

The petition would need to get 100.000 signatures in order to get an official response. If someone would start this petition, it would be the third one open for K1s and/or CR1/IR1. So far, the other two, didn't even got 120 signatures. It's worth a shot, in my opinion, but it needs at least 150 signatures(if i remember correctly) in order for the petition to become visible to everyone on the white house website, and if it gets visible there is a better shot of reaching the 100k signatures needed in one month.

This being said...who's gonna start the petition?:)

I'd not do a petition.

Instead, get the names of the CSC director and his 5 underlings,

then slam out 535 faxes to members of congress, asking that these people's decisions to give priority to DACA applications be reviewed by the OIG/DHS.

If 100 people sent out 535 faxes, it'd have more result... IMO.

535? 435 US Representatives, and 100 Senators.. (Apologies if my House # is off)

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I'd be in support of these. This is a much more viable plan than the white house petition.

Now that it's mentioned I like the Director idea better myself.

Now to find the time to get one together, which is unfortunately a limited commodity for me right now.

Well, firstly we need to know the address/email address of the director. A name is a good start. Then rally any supporters we can, and just have us all send in a variety of letters/data/observations.

So how we gonna do this? We can write a letter and send to all Congressman ?

I think sending a letter to the Director of the CSC is a better idea. One person, lots of letters.
