Nigel&Meggie reacted to VZLAN-US-Citizen in What STUMPS you still after coming to the US?
I've been here for almost 12 years.
Still don't get:
1) Celebrities... they are treated like royalty. If there are two items on the news like nuclear weapons in another country and Kim Kardashian's fingernails... the fingernails will cover 75% of the news.
2) Dinner time. It's so early. I am 'Americanized' about that now and confess that I now eat dinner at 6:30 pm... but I still don't get it.
3) FDA... FDA approved this, FDA approved that... Food here is genetically modified to make it bigger and has preservatives to make it last longer... how come THAT is FDA approved? We don't have FDA in other countries and there are less cases of diseases spread by food contaminants and less cancer, and less obesity ¿?
4) Soccer / Football....Why is it that Americans insist on calling the sport "soccer," while the rest of the world calls it "football"?... And why don't Americans care about Soccer??? Sad.
5) The metric system... oh boy!

But a good lawyer may be able to guide you so that you will not be denied. That's the whole point.

Nigel&Meggie reacted to Nich-Nick in Question 20
The question says "Have you EVER been....."
It does not say, "since your immigration to the US......" or "since your last form was filled out..."
EVER means anytime in you whole life.

It does feel great, a real feeling of accomplishment. Love that timeline with every blue box ticked. I still remember the excitement of getting the first one turned blue.
Congratulations and thanks so much for the kind words.

Finally our journey has come to an end after we started our application for a K-1 4.5 years ago. Today I had my citizenship ceremony yay!!! No more dealing with USCIS!
Thanks to everyone who helped us, especially Nich-Nick who went above and beyond to assist us.
Hang in there K-1'ers, it's a long road but you'll get there

Nigel&Meggie reacted to Nich-Nick in Starting this whole malarky
To be frank, you're dreaming. Marry somebody from your country if you want to set a date now, not be apart, and set up a job right now. K1 Immigration is--
Never knowing when the next step will happen
Being in the dark about what is happening at any given time
Spending time apart
Not being able to set a wedding date
Not being allowed to work or get a driver license for several months after entering the US. 3-4 at best.
Not being allowed to leave the US for several months after entering the US. 3-4 at best probably.
Costs $1680 + £290 (minimum fees) plus travel to London twice, moving, mailing, passport photos,

Nigel&Meggie reacted to rjm_cmyk in marrying a US citizen.
It's kinda like AA - my name is Richard I married a US citizen. Whaddya want to know ?
Things I can tell you.
1) Unless your situation is unusual - you don't need a lawyer - it's not that hard. I did it...
2) You will ask questions that have been asked many times before - we all did
3) People will be a little more gentle with you if you do a bit of reading first - the guides are very useful but it's worth double checking to make sure that things haven't changed.
4) The process will stretch out into the distance and things won't happen for a long time and then the next thing you'll be rushing to get everything done and hey ho you'll be here
5) You *will*take too much stuff to the Embassy when you finally go for your interview despite us all telling us you won't need it (we all did)
6) You've come to right place.
*Do* start a timeline - it's easier for us and the site can tell you more about the process if you do.
Best of luck on your journey.

Nigel&Meggie reacted to Novembro in A Troubling Pattern
Welcome to the internet, public forums specifically.
I'm not even sure why people continue to start topics like this. Even if it's not intentional 'baiting' per se, it ends up being a massive forum meltdown. Does this directly affect your life, or is it just something you were pondering one day and thought "hey, I should wax philosophical about abuse on an immigration aid site and see what happens"? If it isn't directly affecting you and yours, then there really isn't a point to this thread. USCIS is well aware of this type of thing.

The least likely thing to happen is that he would get deported.

Nigel&Meggie reacted to godlove in i am 40 years older than my finance
Its very obvious this guy is only with you because he wants to use you to get over here so so desperate and its a shame. My only advice to you is to run for your life, you can do better because when he gets over here, he will endure for maybe 2 or 3 years and once he gets his green card or becomes a citizen he will disappear and marry someone his age. Nigeria men are not stupid and no reasonable Nigerian man who wants to be with a woman who is 40 years older than him, a woman that can't give him children only if he wants something from that woman. iF your the man and his the woman maybe ya. The CO will know its for immigration purpose only and deny it but you never know, miracles do happen so goodluck.
