  1. Congratulations on your recent marriage! A few answers: #4) To continue from question #2, the next question is “What is the country of issuance for the beneficiary’s Passport or Travel Document?” I’m guessing this is the United States correct? Or would it be Canada? Her passport has probably been issued by India. #8) So I’m in the Texas, United States, she’s in Toronto, Canada. I’m guessing we’d go with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate location since she’s outside of the United States correct? If so, I googled embassies/consulates and I typed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for that section. All interviews for spousal visas take place at the Consulate in Montreal, Quebec . #10) The biggest question of all, it is now asking to upload proof of marriage. So we don’t live together, don’t have any joint ownership of property, bank accounts/financial resources commingled, etc. Our marriage is legit, 100%. Other ideas: You can already add each other as beneficiaries to financial accounts (banking, retirement, insurance, etc.); most credit card providers will also let you add your spouse as an authorized user. Wills/living wills are also good documents to have, for immigration, but more importantly, in life.

  3. It is not that the country itself is inferior, or superior; it has to do with the history of behaviors from applicants, and in some cases, the country's recordkeeping capabilities. Pretending that all things are equal from a location to another is a disservice to applicants. For example, the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria has a full section dedicated to Scams: https://ng.usembassy.gov/scams/ The FBI even made a podcast about the romance scams: https://www.fbi.gov/audio-repository/news-podcasts-thisweek-african-romance-scams.mp3/view For comparison, you can visit the Fraud section on the U.S. Embassy in Canada website: https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/report-fraud/ Illegal activities happen in each and every country, but some scams are much more frequent in some locations. Do what you want with this information, but do not be naïve and think that the local diplomatic missions are blind to what is going on. With that, I hope that all legitimate couples can be reunited as quickly as feasible. It can be hard to be apart.
  4. You can call your insurance and ask for a quote for a short-term plan to cover your spouse-to-be. Then you can call Blue Cross, Aetna, United, etc. and compare the quotes. It won't be cheap, but you might only need it for a few days until you get married/add your spouse to your plan.
  5. You can usually scan a multiple pages document by changing the settings of your scanner/software you use to scan. Alternatively, you can merge documents.
  6. Well, you seem confident, good luck to you both. Please come back to update us.
  7. Is your wife going to be with you for the second interview?
  8. You might also want to add: Wills/living wills. Beneficiary information on financial accounts (bank accounts, IRA, 401k, etc.).
  9. It's not uncommon for the visa to be issued after the two year anniversary. Most people do not send they application the day they get married, so that little time period+current processing time=over 2 years since the wedding day.

  11. With the current processing times, you might not have a choice.
  12. The permanent resident will have to remove conditions before their 2-year card expires, the "wedding anniversary" date will not really matter in this process (but evidence covering the duration of the marriage should still be sent). Full details here: ETA: If at all possible, it is not a bad idea to delay entry after the second wedding anniversary.
  13. Are you banned from visiting her in Canada? If not, you should consider alternate visits to each other. As you know, no entry is guaranteed for tourists, so it's on you two to demonstrate you are only visiting; 3-4 days a week, every week, looks like what it is, living part time with you.
  14. Look at some diplomatic missions, they're hiring regularly https://staffing-les.international.gc.ca/en/search/?term=usa
  15. Well, there's no limit... 😆 Good job, keep it safely!
  16. I want to add that as a foreigner, you have no real status and minimal protection until you are a permanent resident. There's no way I would have uprooted myself to be in such limbo with a K1. Failure to complete the adjustment of status is too common, and an absolute shame.
  17. I can't figure out if you sent your petition yet? Self-employed sponsors' income is calculated from the last tax year, so you might want to read the instructions very carefully, and discuss with your accountant. Depending on where your are in the process, 2023 tax return might be just right to show your income at the interview/adjust status (read the i-864 instructions for that).
  18. I'll cross my fingers for you! Best of luck with the adjustment of status, hopefully everything goes smoothly.
  19. It doesn't need to be an emergency in Canada. You could win a cruise trip in the Caribbean... Even if you don't plan to use it, it's such an easy form to join to the rest and save you possible headaches/heartbreak later.
  20. These days, usually only one diplomatic mission per country is offering immigrant visa interviews. Are you sure they're available in Okinawa?
  21. You can print 6 pictures on a 4x6. Just need to cut them yourself after. Photo printers in store here do offer gloss finish. For higher quality prints I've used Nation Photo lab many times, but for such small pictures, it shouldn't be necessary.
  22. Following a comment by @Dashinka, here is a thread to share our love of good beer. All are welcome - cheers!
