Speaking of background checks... a colleague at work sort of disappeared right before Christmas. He told our boss that it was a family emergency. Three weeks later the big boss told us he was cut loose. He kept everyone in the dark during his absence. Since that time I've heard that the real issue was that he was arrested for something serious. A casual internet search not only found he'd been arrested and booked into jail around Thanksgiving (subsequently released and returned to work for a few weeks), but also that he'd been arrested back in 2014 for "assault on a household member". Couldn't find the resolution of that charge... dropped? convicted? etc.
Anyway, just wondering how often this stuff falls through the cracks on employment background checks. The thing is, even after he was hired at my place of employment many years ago, he transferred a couple of times and presumably checks were done after each transfer. And then a final thought is that once you've been hired into an organization, do any HR departments do regular checks to catch if someone might have had a DUI or domestic violence charge without anyone at work hearing about it?
A co-worker and I were talking about it over beers, and concluded that we never truly know anyone.
I actually looked Mr Lobster up on the repository before I started dating him. He had a looooong list of violations, all traffic-related. 😂

My interviewing officer kept referring to my (ex)husband as though we were still married. She asked how long we were married for, and I answered truthfully. About 3.5yrs, which is obviously not a long time. She then asked what happened, to which I answered truthfully as well.

Of course, you're right, it isn't a cure-all. However, if it comes to relief for your child's suffering, wouldn't you consider it as a viable option, alongside actual medical treatment? While I wouldn't recommend any child smoking pot EVER, nor do I do so myself (I can't stand the taste or smell), drops, salves, and ointments made with CBD oil have proven to be beneficial. Even gummies, like the Flintstones Vitamin gummies have shown to be useful.
But to each their own, this is a strongly debated topic for sure. -

I gain so many white hair! I look 150 now...I apply for the 3 years rule but I have 5 years of marriage already...with this trend of waiting we will be retired and living in an assisting home. LOL

My journey is finally over, I was Naturalized just this morning! My boyfriend, his parents, his best friend and his wife, my "adoptive parents" (all 4 of them), a couple of other friends of mine and my best friend were all in attendance.
There was a line out the door, so if you're intending to get "good seats", @JonnyO, get there early. We got there at 9am, and already the line was out the door. 50 of us were being Naturalized from 17 different countries. I was the only one from Singapore. Half the congregation were from Mexico. They did a little Q&A session before the ceremony and once all of us arrived, they played a video for us, talked to us for a bit, had us stand when our countries were named, read a letter from the Secretary of Homeland Security, played a video of the President welcoming us as citizens to the US, gave us our certificates, and then we were golden.
They also gave us the opportunity to vote on the spot, so naturally, I did.
It was a great experience, but I'm glad it's all done. Now it's YOUR turn!

I have a hand-me-down nook that no longer wants to keep a charge, but I only read it when traveling on long haul flights. If I'm at home, a real book works for me.
My local library also has audiobooks you can borrow, and since I have a cleaning job that takes about 3hrs of my day, I plough through books at 1.8x speed so I can finish them before the deadline. I find myself re-"reading" the same ones over and over again though, and I'm a little more than upset that Joy Luck Club hasn't been transcribed into an audiobook yet. If I finish listening to a book that piqued my interest, I go on Amazon (sorry) and purchase a physical copy so I can actually read it again.
Now that all my free time is dedicated to knitting though, audiobooks are perfect.
