  1. I understand that, I'm just linking to your post since you nicely quoted the law regulating this
  2. Per the other post If possible, make sure it's the non-Filipino/a that initiates the divorce so the Filipino/a's recognized as being unmarried back home - but if they don't plan to live there again it does not matter
  3. I remembered the counting rules but not the others, si man. Thanks man. M man, K is the ma'am.
  4. OP is a she, by the way (trying to keep the facts straight as this is getting quite long) Agreed that the best case here is probably for OP's mom to fly back to spend some time with her dad.
  5. Less than a year into suburban life, the 20 years old water heater was on its last leg (to be fair, it lasted twice as long as expected, and we did get the seller to accept a lower bid than asking price). Miu 1 does not mind strangers and was friendly with the first plumber who did the inspection and just didn't care about the two plumbers who came to install the replacement tanks a couple of days later. Miu 2 on the other hand... oh wow. Hid behind the washing machine all day when the inspectino took place. Peed next to Mr. 2's table that night. Behaved a bit better after the tank replacement, but reacquired his bad habit of trying to get into our bedroom and home office - I guess he's still afraid to be alone. On the bright side the new tank is up to the new code (which requires having drainage in case it leaks) and should pay for itself... haha who am I kidding. But hopefully it will last at least 15 years.
  6. I was once visiting a university friend in the US while based in Germany, and the research library is restricted access (you have to show ID). They could not accept my German driver license as apparently whatever visitor entry system they had require filling in expiration dates, and this license does not have one! I just shrugged it off -- if I really wanted to I could have come back with my passport -- but yeah. The one thing to get used to in the US is that there is a proliferation of IDs, and different federal, state, and local government offices might have a different understanding of what IDs are valid (let alone stores!) -- it definitely adds some inconvenience early on but it's not the end of the world. FWIW in my past experience most stores that age check seem to happily accept passports.
  7. Hang in tight! FWIW in Chicago, I see other cases that filed three months earlier than us (in December) getting similar interview dates (in July), so... we don't know what are the factors involved, and there is nothing to do but wait. Try not to check too often - I normally just check weekly, and otherwise I just try to put it out of my mind.
  8. Right, there's that too (though some motoring organizations, like AAA, would mail you the IDP if you apply after you're out of the country - it just takes longer). Just pointing out that in many cases you don't even need an IDP anyway - I rented and drove without one in the Netherlands, the US, and UK before with a license from a different country. In OP's case a US state license is needed, but OP said they have it already.
  9. Ah, excellent! Then yes, everything others have said. Expect higher rates as someone under 25, definitely get supplemental insurance https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/insurance/rental-car-insurance I'm assuming you don't have your own car insurance at this point, and the insurance via credit card is also probably out, so make sure the supplemental insurance from the car rental covers third party liabilities (in case you get into an accident and is found to be at fault) as well as damage to the rented car
  10. International driver licenses only serve as legal translations of the original license, I think? (And not all states/countries require it) So if the original license is not valid anymore due to residency requirement, the translation won't be either. From AAA https://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html#Q002
  11. Utility companies are normally happy adding a spouse to the account immediately, you can use that as proof of address. Are you sure that's what is lacking? You indicated the bank did not provide an explanation.
  12. Per this January, your I-751 receipt notice serves as proof that your GC is extended by 48 months (4 years!) - so in case you're worried, I'd bring a print-out / the actual mailed notice as well as this page and show it to your employer (you'll also need to bring the receipt notice if you're using your GC as identification) https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/alerts/uscis-extends-green-card-validity-for-conditional-permanent-residents-with-a-pending-form-i-751-or
  13. You're a very curious person! My curiosity does not extend to paying one just to ask this question
  14. Hi Ron! That's correct - but based on other cases we see in the timeline database for the Chicago office, some took longer (we filed in March, some people who filed in December are also getting interviewed in July) Can't tell you about the interview yet since we have not had it! Biometrics was smooth, the people at the ASC were friendly and chatty. We joked a bit about how difficult pronouncing words or names from other languages can be!
  15. I think it's the number you get if you ever filed using the old ELIS system? https://redbus2us.com/visas/usa/uscis/uscis-online-account-number/#What-is-USCIS-Online-Account-Number I have been using my online account since my GC application (though that one was filed by lawyers, and I just added the numbers to my account) and didn't have the 12 digit number it requested either. Everything is fine so far (fingers crossed, our interviews are next month)
  16. As a concrete case, we did biometrics 04/13, interview notice was given May 24 (PDF only, still haven't received the mail) for 07/13. We are filing under the 5 year rule so the earliest interview date would have been 06/20
  17. Sorry to hear about your mother Not sure calling will help, others might be able to weigh in on that. As for your mother's medical care - even once you naturalize it will still be months at the earliest for the sponsorship process. Hope she is getting the proper care in your home country!
  18. Agreed with others here - you can just decline same day oath ceremony if offered, with the reason that you have immediate travel planned (second hand experience from a colleague in California) Not sure if it will count as one of the two rescheduling you can do, hopefully not.
  19. Sorry to hear! Are you comparing to cases in the same field office? It is possible yours is dealing with more cases Here in Chicago, we get our interview notice about 6 weeks after biometrics -- though somehow it still has not been mailed after over 2 weeks, or USPS lost it. But at least we have the PDFs.
  20. It seems that subreddit is currently locked -- I managed to view it over the weekend, but now it's marked as private. Possible explanation - they are boycotting the new API pricing
  21. The US passport also gets you longer visa free stay (90 days) over the Philippines one (30 days)
  22. We got the list of questions at ours. But it's basically the same as what you can get on the USCIS website too
  23. Ah, right. Seems like the same biometrics process as N-400, in that they want to verify the existing biometrics data https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-11-part-b-chapter-2 Not sure if this will work out, but I guess we'll hear soon! Fingers crossed for your mother in law I guess it depends on how this gets interpreted The caveat being that adjudication is after biometrics..
  24. If you know where the ceremony will be held, they might have a website - I haven't gone to my interview yet, but I checked and the courthouse likely to be used has a FAQ page that says guests are allowed. Good luck! Our concern will be the same as @kiwibean- that the ceremony might be long, so preferably we'll keep our toddler in his daycare but we might need to rethink depending on the schedule
