Yikes. A friend of ours has just announced his engagement. His wife died April first this year.  He drives long haul trucks, and now and then he stops by the local truck stop for lunch.

In July, so three months after his wife died, he told me he had a girlfriend. Showed me a picture of her, taken at his wife's funeral, and in it the new girlfriend and he are holding hands. At the funeral. They all went to high school together. Dug the engagement ring he had bought out of his pocket to get my opinion.  I figured he knew what he was about, congratulated him and wished them well.

Last night on FB, he announced his engagement. To an entirely different woman. This one is from the Philippines, and has a 12 hear old daughter. He has known her three weeks,  only one week before he proposed. Both the fiancee and the daughter are wearing engagement rings.

She arrived here on a K1, has a two year green card, filed VAWA as yet undecided, and is just recently divorced.

She is 32 years younger than he is, and really quite beautiful. Mike is, well, let's just say he won't be winning any GQ awards for sartorial splendor. He is short, chubby, bordering on obese.

Now it is just me, or has my friend totally lost his ever loving mind?
  2. Thanks

He was out of love with his wife, perhaps Eh ma'am; he's on the rebound, perhaps Eh ma'am; he's fishing and hoping to "trade up," perhaps Eh ma'am; he's psycho, almost certainly Eh ma'am.

We would remain distantly pleasant but out of direct involvement, si Eh ma'am.
The solution is for you to upvote all of our recent (and earlier) posts, perfect strategy Eh ma'am!

Finished the reno.  Been totally re-plumbed, mostly rewired. Now trying to organize and find a place for the stuff I didn't biff. I still have stuff do do outside, but I ain't doing that when it's still so hot.
We stagger on here. I see NZ is back in lockdown, due to a heap more Covid cases, so getting back there anytime soon is out of the question. Getting into Canada looks not so straightforward either.
Crazy preacher family  out by the road want to buy the place. For their two daughters, both in their 20's living at home of course.  He wants them where he can keep an eye on them.
Drug house new people have a stereo, which they drag out on to the front porch and rattle the windows down here. Preacher's kid got a motor bike for his last birthday, and spends hours driving around and around their property, which of course surrounds mine. Can't say I'll be sorry to leave. Himself really loved it here, but times change.

    Families are strange things.

I had a Facebook message from my first cousin, in Ontario Canada. It isn't new, but we are not friends on there, so it only came up when I went looking for something unrelated that ought to have been sent.

She sent her condolences on the loss of my sister. News to me.

So I hunted down the obit, which is a week old. I understand from that she had two surviving sisters, who are named. I am not.
    Charming.

Oh you should have heard me complain to the Hillbilly. Every darn day there was something. The size of the darn spiders, poison this poison that. THe darn tornado alarms that go off for no reason. Crappy chocolate, the flour sucks (I did find one that was better and now King Arthur flour is sold here, I'm so much happier with that one). Cost of my stupid inhalers is just nuts. How everyone wants your SSN but then SSN tells you not to give it out. Heck they didn't even want to get me admitted to the hospital while I was in labour because I didn't know it off by heart and I don't carry it.  You think they would be happy with the Health insurance card but nope. Oh and don't get me started on how they treat pregnant women here compared to back in Canada. Now I did like I could walk out of one doctors office and call another and just like that I have a new doctor (10 yr wait list back where I used to live). THen I complained how dumb the learners permit test is. ( I moved here with 4 kids)  THey make it so crazy and hard but turn around and don't actually have anything other than drive around the block to get your DL. Then they wonder why ppl can't drive here.

Let her blow off steam don't take it personally. It's not you it's the change and it took me a good 3 yrs before I started feeling like this was going to be ok. 5 yrs before I really felt like this is home. Now after 13yrs I don't hate it and don't complain nearly as much. Complaining is good. It means she is talking to you about how she feels. As long as she isn't blaming you for messing up her life that is.

As Tbone has mentioned the Moving to the US forum, has many ppl venting and looking for others who feel the same. Still you are more then welcome to come complain here too. Big hugs to both of you I know it's hard.

I swear the skeeter truck just pushes the bugs to the back yard. We run for cover here too.
It's been hot and steamy outside here too. I'm happy my friends dropped off their old pump for my pool or the kids would be rioting.

I took apart the robot vacuum and manage to fix it. I figured I couldn't do worse as it was already broken. Maybe my luck hasn't rand out yet.

I dunno, but it sounds like Portuguese to me. Pity if it is, that was Himself's first language.  Only going by a couple of conversations he had with his Nanny when she visited several years ago.

Plan to paint the remaining window frame in here this afternoon. Once that's done, the lounge is finally finished. One room left, it's a pity I left the worst to last. I am over this reno thing, over it.  I will say going from dreadful dark paneling to a lighter color makes an amazing difference. It's just the work to get it there I detest; two coats of primer and one of paint. Would be lovely to have the Sims paint tool

Herself is over it for sure. It's not a huge room, and I've no where to put stuff, so I have been just pulling things away from the wall, painting behind them, and putting them back. Cartons everywhere, utter upheaval, and she has a well established and entirely earned mistrust of those.
At least the last room in at the other end of the house, and we aren't actually trying to live in the middle of the mess.

I am appropriating Himself's desk, and my sewing table will actually be used as one for the first time since I've been here. Which is to say it will become a flat surface I will load junk onto.

I  ought to mow this evening, but given the heat warning I don't think I will. It was still 97 at midnight last night, and I am not that nuts.

The new neighbors have really stiffened my resolve in regard to moving on. 7 children, although the number seems to vary, three adults who seem to be there most of the time. Several yappy little dogs who go on and on for hours. Saturday night seems to be the worst, they light a fire on the drive, and hoot and holler until the small hours. Had a verbal dispute with the farmer over the road, told him off for bush hogging too near their house. "Get off our property"! I am assuming, they don't seem to speak a lot of English. Turns out they were unaware of the property borders, and thought they owned more than they actually bought. The farmer owns everything right up to 15 feet from their front door. Which he pointed out to them in no uncertain terms. Told them he isn't putting up with any more nonsense at that address, that the surveyors will show them the the pins first thing Monday and he will have the fencers out there middle of the week. They don't have an easement as such, and the lane they use to get to the house is actually not theirs either.  Things might get interesting.
