  1. Whether you're being sarcastic or not, Bro G., we make it a point to keep two -- one in the garage, one in the T-B.-mobile's trunk, si man. Who cares if we need it once in a blue moon, conclude we man. One winter years ago when we had to park outside, we needed not only the ice-scraper, but a couple of panfuls of boiling water to soften the ice so that we could scrape it, remember we man.
  2. The lingering question in my mind is how another country would or could know about a misdemeanor from 9 years ago, and expunged on top of that. If you had to apply for a visa to enter or to stay for a long time, you might have to report it, but if you can simply enter for a stay that's shorter than 90 or 120 or 180 days, the entry personnel probably won't even ask. Regardless, researching the entry requirements of your countries of choice is sound advice. You might even contact the U.S. Citizen units of the U.S. consulates in those countries to gain their feedback. --- Just today, I found this online article, which is good for everyone to read: The 1 Big Mistake You Should Never, Ever Make With Your Passport [...] "A lot of us just think we need a valid passport to travel the world beyond our borders, but what many people don't realize [is] that a current passport alone might not be enough," said Katy Nastro, a spokesperson for the flight alert service Going. Indeed, many countries require your passport to have a certain duration of validity remaining beyond the intended dates of your trip. The most common lengths are three and six months past the date you fly back to the U.S. [...] Continues: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/1-big-mistake-never-ever-111603933.html
  3. In hopes of compelling more approvals and good news (that is, if correlation = causation), we present here our Official Weekly VAWA-Thread Joke: ============================================== AS INSTRUCTED Two hunters were out one day and were about to shoot a buck. Suddenly, one of the hunters clutched his chest and fell to the ground. The other hunter, in shock, called 9-1-1. The operator said, "9-1-1; what's your emergency?" The hunter nervously said, "My friend just collapsed, and I think he's dead!" The operator responded, "OK; can you make sure?" A gunshot was heard over the phone. "Done. Now what?"
  4. New York DA Indicts Trump For Bringing Firefighters Pizza But No Salad Or Cheesy Bread [...] "After a lengthy day in court, former President Trump personally delivered pizzas to New York firefighters without a single leaf of salad or some cheesy bread," declared District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Protesters Trashed the Portland State University Library So Badly It Will Remain Closed Until the Fall [...] "I wish when a protest is happening people didn't feel licensed to cause damage to something that doesn't have anything to do with what is being protested," said Christina Osborn, a PSU senior. The only solution is to send U several zillion more dollars, right? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ukraine's Soldiers Admit Even Rear Lines are Failing [...] In a rare interview with one Ukrainian front-line commander, the Associated Press reveals that it's often not even safe for them to pull back and try to regroup in the face of the Russian advance. They have no ability to counter these types of attacks and the Russians can reach well beyond the poorly defined front lines. 8. Finally, a piece that articulates what has bothered many of us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here's How We Know The Climate Crisis Is Not About The Climate [...] Over the last three calendar years, 2021, 2022, and 2023, “"no country has reduced its carbon emissions more than any other major nation on a per capita basis," the Committee to Unleash Prosperity tells us. "Even though our GDP is about 50% higher than China's, our per capita emissions are roughly the same," says the group. The data also tell us that though China's emissions grow every year, "ours have come down every year over the last decade." Yet the U.S. is continually singled out as the worst greenhouse gas offender [...] https://issuesinsights.com/2024/05/03/heres-how-we-know-the-climate-crisis-is-not-about-the-climate/
  9. Why is this not surprising? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trump Whodunnit: Prosecutors admit key evidence in document case has been tampered with In a stunning admission, Special Counsel Jack Smith's team is admitting that key evidence in former President Donald Trump's classified documents criminal case was altered or manipulated since it was seized by the FBI, and that prosecutors misled the court about it for a period of time. Legal experts told Just the News the revelation could prove to be a serious problem for prosecutors and a violation of court rules to preserve evidence in the state it was seized. 10. It's hard enough for U.S. authorities to retrieve expunged records. Imagine how difficult this would be for authorities in foreign countries. I think it's Canada that won't let U.S. citizens in if there's a conviction for DUI, DWI, or similar (others can confirm or correct this). An expunged misdemeanor arrest from 9 years ago would almost certainly be beyond their capability to research. If you have a U.S. passport with at least 6 months of validity left on it, you can travel just about anywhere, of course keeping in mind any lengths of stay or work permits required by other countries. I wouldn't worry about your arrest.

  18. Foolish humans, getting excited about routine behavior... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In a first, an orangutan was seen treating his wound with a medicinal plant An orangutan named Rakus hit a rough patch in the summer of 2022. Researchers heard a fight between male orangutans in the treetops of a rainforest in Sumatra, Indonesia; a day later, they spotted Rakus sporting a pink wound below his right eyelid. A chunk of flesh about the size and shape of a puzzle piece was missing. When Rakus, who is most likely in his 30s, belted out a long call, the researchers noticed another wound inside his mouth. Over the next several days, researchers followed Rakus at a distance — and saw something so surprising they wound up reporting it in great detail in the journal Scientific Reports. According to their study, published Thursday, Rakus was observed repeatedly chewing on the leaves of a particular liana plant over several days. The climbing vine is not a typical food for orangutans, but it is known to humans as a pain reliever. [...] https://www.yahoo.com/news/first-orangutan-seen-treating-wound-150254658.html

  21. 'Shark Tank' star Kevin O'Leary says pro-Palestinian student protesters are 'screwed' when they apply for jobs because employers will identify them through AI "Shark Tank" host and investor Kevin O'Leary says pro-Palestinian student protesters will be "screwed" when they start job hunting. This, O'Leary says, is because employers can now use AI technology to screen applicants and filter out those who have taken part in protests. Advancements in technology have made it much easier to identify people on camera, the businessman added. "Here's your resume with a picture of you burning a flag. See that one. That goes in this pile over here, cause I can get the same person's talent in this pile that's not burning anything," O'Leary told Fox News' The Five on Wednesday.
