  1. There are also the fintech cards and phone apps like chime.com or cred.ai. These things are set up to function as a checking account with a debit card, but they are structured to report on your credit report as a credit card. So it provides you a checking account and it builds your credit rating as well. They are backed by FDIC approved banks so your money is safe and the only real downsides are no physical branches and although they give you a checking account there are no paper checks. Only ACH checking. My wife got both of the above in the first few months she was here, before she had a physical green card and with only the endorsed CR1 visa acting as a temporary green card and her Social Security card. If i recall correctly she had to do some extra verifications over the phone and online but she did open the accounts.
  2. It probably just means they had some issue with the previously taken biometrics. Like a blurry fingerprint or a problem with the picture.
  3. It seems that another round of mass expedites is currently in progress. Check your e-mail.
  4. If the mother was unmarried and the father does not acknowledge paternity on a Philippine Birth Certificate, then it is automatically issued as father, "Unknown". Whether he is known or not. For US Passport purposes mom has no problem claiming sole custody.
  5. I have no knowledge myself, but there is this.... https://www.tribunal-electoral.gob.pa/cambio-adicion-modificacion-y-supresion-de-nombres-propios-por-derecho-de-uso-y-costumbre/
  6. Probably that is the most correct answer anyways. Previously it was your parent petitioning you. So that is their account not yours. Now you are the one applying so you should open your own account
  7. I agree with OldUser that giving more than what was asked is probably is harmless. The specific instructions say "you do not have to list every location where you have lived, only the current location." But it does not say you can't list every location where you have lived.
  8. On the paper N400 form it says.... "If you are filing based on other naturalization eligibility options, see Part 4. in the Specific Instructions by Item Number section of the Instructions for the applicable period of time for which you must enter this information" In the N400 instructions on page 10 it says... "Part 4. Information About Your Residence... If you are filing based on military service during a period of hostilities, under Item Number 1.E. in Part 1. Information About Your Eligibility, you do not have to list every location where you have lived, only the current location. " So the correct answer is list only your current location either online or on the paper form.
  9. Yea. That was a typo. 😆 But still time to edit the post so I fixed it. November 19 is the interview. November 19 seems like a big day for VJ member N-400 interviews. 7 different VJ members are listing N-400 interview on that date.
  10. My wife just got one of those mysterious "We have taken an action on your case" e-mails that don't correlate to any actual action. I guess the speculation is that those mystery e-mails get triggered sometimes when the transfer the case to the local office or some other activity preparing the case. Also interesting.. although nothing whatsoever has changed in the online account, the "updatedAt" "updatedAtTimestamp" date in the api data did update to match the email. So I guess that means they did "something" just now. The interview is on November 19.
  11. I am sympathetic because I know it awful to be confronted like that. But, if they were really out to get you, they could have and would have revoked your visa and sent you back. They didn't. Instead, they still let you in and let you keep your visa. You could look at it as a not really subtitle and not polite warning that you have been visiting to much and need to space out your visits a bit more. You could be thankful that they chose the rude warning approach vs more serious actions that they could have taken.
  12. You can get the entire medical exam done in advance, including sputum testing if Saint Luke's deems it necessary. Just be aware that in sputum test cases the medical expires 90 days after the results of the test. Meaning, the applicant must interview, receive their visa and enter the US within that window of time or the entire medical must be repeated. It makes it a little risky doing it without an actual interview date scheduled.
  13. 1. Joint interviews are very common for people who still have I-751's pending. Hopefully they would approve both at the same interview. 2. USCIS is all over the place with times for mailing notices. Our notice for the N400 interview took 7 days to receive, but 11 days probably couldn't be considered late just yet. We did previously have one appointment notice that hadn't arrived in the mail and wasn't viewable in the online account but I was successful getting Ask Emma" live agent chat to email me a pdf copy of the missing notice. So maybe you can try that.
  14. Honorably serving in the US Military during "the war on terror".
  15. Congratulations!!! CFO has been easy recently so everything is good.
  16. If the "ready" date changes it can be seen as an encouraging sign that they are actively working on it because the date only changes when someone at the embassy does "something" with the case. Generally, it is progress. EB2 undoubtable requires more routine verifications than some other categories.
  17. Based on a quick, incomplete and uneducated check of Hong Kong divorce laws. It appears that if she has been resident there as an OFW for at least 3 years then she 'might' be able to get divorced in Hong Kong. If she has not been resident in Hong Kong for three years but is able to extend her contract and hit that three year mark then that 'might' be her best option. Better confirm that with someone who knows about Hong Kong though. Unless the "ex"husband has any options outside the Philippines and is cooperative there is no such thing as divorce under Philippine law.
  18. I hope you are aware there is no divorce in the Philippines. It may be a big problem. Where is the husband and is he cooperative? Is he Filipino or non-filipino? Those are critical details. Since divorce simply does not exist under Philippine law, maybe she should investigate her options for divorcing in Hong Kong if she is resident there. I know nothing about Hong Kong divorce law or if that is possible though. If she is not able to get a foreign divorce then her options in the Philippines are grim. There is annulment which is expensive, can take years, and is not even guaranteed. An I129f can not move forward until she solves the very serious divorce problem.
  19. If they suspect that someone isn't really comprehending English and has only memorized a few words and the correct one-word answers to the questions, then they are supposed to repeat and rephrase any of questions during the interview until they are satisfied that the applicant either fully understands the question or does not understand English. Someone here recently posted that their spouse had failed due to lack of English comprehension even though they had successfully completed the reading and writing portions. For an applicant with extremely weak English skills the follow-up question videos might be extremely helpful. Not much use for anyone whose English is moderately proficient or better.
  20. Congratulations!! That's very good advice. My wife has also been going through that and a whole lot of other YouTube videos and finding them exceptionally helpful and confidence building. In addition to the civics questions, YouTube have a bunch of mock interview videos covering a wide variety of things that might come up and just what to expect at a N400 interview. There are also some that cover follow-up vocabulary questions they might sometimes ask if they suspect someone’s English comprehension is low beyond the simple English reading and writing tests. There's like a million of those types of videos on YouTube and they are indeed an excellent resource. Just search"N400 Interview" or "N400 civics" on YouTube.
  21. The bank is mistaking you as a visitor rather than a Permanent Resident. It is an error the bank needs to correct rather than filling a W8-BEN. By signing a W8-BEN you would certifying under penalties of perjury that you ARE NOT a US Person. As a US Permanent Resident you ARE a US Person so certifying that you are not is illegal. Your situation differs from EatBaluga's spouse because they were still in the process of adjusting status and therefore NOT a US Permanent Resident yet. But you ARE.
  22. If he is now living with you than your address IS his correct current address. Whatever different address is on any kind of ID is his previous address and no longer current.
  23. Renewing online is by far the best option if she can. I 'think' it can be done all online if she has a helper in the Philippines. There are probably agents who would facilitate that for a fee too but I couldn't personally recommend any. If she cant renew online and is overseas, she can get a NBI Clearance through the Philippine Embassy. For UAE the instructions are here. https://www.abudhabipe.org/_files/ugd/7dae58_6d9059a0d13347d69b01606a183614ce.pdf The Philippine Embasy has the info here. https://www.abudhabipe.org/notarialservices (scroll down the page to "NBI / Certificate of Good Conduct") A CENOMAR is a requirement. Sometimes they are inconsistent about actually asking for one when Filipino's interview outside the Philippines but they can ask and it's easy to get so best to have one. The PSA Serbilis web site https://psaserbilis.com.ph/ is where she can get a CENOMAR online and also her Birth Certificate if she needs one. It could be ordered online with a credit card and delivered to UAE.
  24. The embassy will probably issue the visa before long, but alas, they are highly unlikely to give you any useful information while you wait.
  25. Does a round trip originating from overseas offer the same price advantage? There's nothing to stop you from flying your round trip starting from the US and him taking the first leg of a round trip on the same flights as your return and then him canceling the return.
