Hi all interview was on 10/5. Hubby was approved!! I've also updated my timeline with all the details.

Was wondering does all status change from Ready to Issued or is there another status in between?

Congratulations!! I got approved too and on the same day after my interview my status changed from Ready to Administrative Processing, hopefully it will change to Issued soon. Did yours change to Issued already?

But why the week delay if you don't?

in my case i needed to take 3 additional vaccinations. i did the first one when i went to the hospital (as i did the antibody test) and they said to have the 2nd and the 3rd i need to have one week interval. who knows that @Jonathan & Olivia might have similar case. if they don't need to have additional vaccination then of course it will be faster for them to get the medical result and it also depends on the hospital instructions. i am not saying that all the cases will be the same as mine, i only share what i know and my experiences with those things.

The gov site says to do your medical at least 10 days before interview date.  Is this an absolute rule, and, if so, does anyone know the specific reasoning for it?  Is it possible to just do your medical the day before the interview, for example?  I know this would at least mean you would have to wait longer after the interview to find out if you were fully approved.  I will be emailing the embassy, but just wanted to check here and see if anyone has any insight beforehand.  Thank you!

it is not absolute rule. but it will better if you can complete your medical examination before your interview. Also the US government required the applicant has the vaccinations records, if you have complete vaccinations, then it has no problem, you can predict how long you have to wait for your medical result, but if you don't have complete vaccination, you need to have that additional vaccinations which means your medical examination won't be done just in one day, as you have to go again to the hospital one week after your first examination.

We were documentarily qualified (CR-1) at the end of May, and at that time, the email that we received from the NVC said, "NVC will work with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General in JAKARTA, IDSA to schedule an interview appointment for you. Once we have confirmed an interview date, we will send a notice to you, your petitioner and attorney (if applicable)." So, knowing that it likely wouldn't be a while until the Embassy in Indonesia reopens, we didn't think much of it and just didn't expect to hear more from them anytime soon.

The thing is, now that embassies around the world are starting to reopen and ours started to do interviews for expedited cases, we second-guessed ourselves; should we have contacted the NVC to ask what the status of our case was and where it was? The CEAC website says that my case is currently at NVC. Is that normal? For those who are waiting (or were) in a limbo this whole time, where does the system say your case is at? Is it stuck at NVC even after becoming DQ'd like mine is, or did it get forwarded to the Embassy and has been waiting there the whole time?

I'm worried that we had missed a step and now everyone who got DQ'd after we did are already queuing up at their embassy while we're waiting cluelessly at the NVC..

Thats normal. Just keep checking the CEAC website. Once the NVC arrange the interview date with the US embassy, you will get another email from the NVC and it might take couple or few days till the status on the site change. :)

    Hi all,

My husband and I have gotten to the uploading of civil documents for the Consular Electronic Application Center.  We are applying for a CR-1 visa from Japan.

He got his police certificate and we uploaded it to the website due to these instructions from here:

Special Seal(s) / Color / Format: Japanese Police Certificates are issued in a sealed envelope. If the seal is broken, the certificate is considered invalid. Visa applicants should not open a sealed envelope containing a Police Certificate. The applicant must bring the original Police Certificate in a sealed envelope to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate at the time of his/her interview. Applicants should only send a photocopy of the sealed envelope to the National Visa Center, but not the actual police certificate itself.

We scanned the sealed envelope and uploaded it.

Today, we got an email from the CEAC.  The message said:

The police certificate required for JAPAN does not need to be submitted through CEAC. The issuing authority will send the police certificate directly to the interviewing consulate or embassy. Please use our Document Finder at https://nvc.state.gov/find for acceptable documents guidelines.

    What???

This is super confusing- we are located in Japan so my husband could go get another police certificate, but do we need to?

I also cannot remove the Police Certificate upload from our documents.

I don't know what to do :< Any guidance?

I did the same thing as you did. I took a pic of the sealed envelope and upload it to the CEAC site, but we didn't get any message like you did.

Maybe you can try to email the US embassy Tokyo and ask them what to do. I was confused with my Indonesia Police Certificate (whether I should get that or not), and I emailed embassy and they said it is not necessary. But since on the CEAC site asked me about it, I just uploaded the email that I got from the embassy and it was OK.  so you can to do it that way. or you can just take screenshot from the below site where it mention about the Police Certificate. I brought the envelope myself to the embassy at the time my interview.

i hope it will not take that longer....

few days from now it will be your interview good luck then and please share some input afterwards.... thanks

don't have any vaccine record but i'm pretty sure when i was young i did have those vaccines but the problem is i dont have proofs to show so i might as well have it... yes my first letter  of my  case is TKY.... why it has something in this letter??

yes, i will try to share the information about my interview.

i did have bunch of vaccination when i was young too, but i didn't have any record/book about it. the hospital needs to see the proof, so if you don't have it, you have to take antibody test for 4 vaccines (or you can do the vaccines directly without antibody test if you are sure you never had it before) and you have to take a shot for DT vaccine. fyi, there are only 2 hospitals that doing the examination for US visa purpose.

i think the first three letters is shows about which embassy or consular your interview will be, so i think you will have it in Tokyo.

thank you. oh congratulations to you too... great! hopefully i will get the same approx time of getting the interview date.... have you finish your interview already??? do you mind me asking what are the questions being asked??? and also what about the public charge form did they asked about it too????

ah i see, so i have to wait for the interview letter then..... what about the vaccine did they give there too after medical??? no i live outside tokyo.. i live in gunma....

thank you for your time for answering all my questions.... all the best

yeahh, the embassy is started reopen visa service for other visa also, so there is possibility that it might take longer, but hopefully you can hear it soon from them.

no, not yet. my interview will be on Monday next week. i filled out the public charge form just in case they ask, hopefully they won't ask for that, lol.

do you have a vaccination record/book? what is the three first letter of your case ID if you dont mind me to ask? is it TKY?

got DQ last month Sept 23 just waiting for my interview date,  Non expedite case... roughly waiting time from DQ to Interview Date any idea??

I'm just trying to figure out for my medical....

should i proceed for my medical exam without my interview letter yet? or should i wait for it?

congratulations for your DQ. in my case from DQ to interview date (email from NVC) is about around 3 weeks. but it is vary for everyone, takes around 1-2 months.

and for doing the medical exam you need to show the interview date appointment from NVC, so you have to wait for that. usually from the time you get the email to the interview has 1 month interval, so you still have plenty time to schedule your medical exam (medical will take around 1 week). do you live in Tokyo?

    Hi all,

I wanted to double check if my husband needs to obtain a PCC from Kuwait. He was living and working there for more than 10 years, but left his job there in 2013. I read that he still needs a PCC but also that he can't get one unless he resides in Kuwait. Can someone please help me out, I am so confused.

as what @designguy said, it was written that it is not needed for the former resident. but if you still unsure, you can try to email or call the US embassy where your husband reside. i had same situation (different countries) before, and the US embassy where i reside said that i don't need it, so i follow their instruction

I didn't even think about it since it had been suspended, but it does seem like it was recently overturned. Our Embassy didn't include it on the list of documents to bring though. My husband's interview is in 2 weeks so I'd really appreciate an update on whether it's asked for!

yeahh... i just got an email today from the embassy about what documents to bring for the interview and nothing was mention about the DS-5540. but when we prepared documents for the NVC stage we actually already filled it out, so i was just gonna bring it whether they will ask or not. two weeks will go by fast, good luck for his interview :)

I've had bad experiences in the past when trying to do it myself. Plus, I don't want to spend hours of my time researching when I could be doing other things. That's what I'm paying for -- the convenience of having someone knowledgeable tell me what to do. I was looking at the company Boundless. They seem like a good option.

me and my husband using Boundless for my IR-1 visa application. they helped us checking the documents in details. first step for petition (I-130) application we didn't get any RFE and even for the NVC stage it went smoothly. doing it yourself might make you feel overwhelmed sometimes

I found the below link which seems to indicate that this form is no longer required for the K1 Visa (or other) interviews:

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/update-on-public-charge.html

Can anyone else confirm? I cannot find any discussion of this on VisaJourney. The current DS-5540 form seems to have expired on 08/31/2020. If this still needs to be completed, does anyone have the current form?

if you will have your interview soon, the DS-5540 is not required right now.

How’s ur NVC stage doing so far, did u get an interview yet?

i have a friend who’s filing a petition also, she’s at NVC stage. All papers are accepted but still waiting for a interview date since March 2020. This Covid thing sucks. It’s holding everything back.

it went faster than i thought, we got an interview date fast too, it will be at the beginning of next month.

yeah, i think the interview will depends on the countries. here the embassy reopen their visa services on July.

it was at California the faster facility. But now at Vermont. It seems like Vermont is working slow

i see. well, since your last update is august, i think they are actively reviewing your case. hopefully your case wont take that long. my I130 took long, but on the NVC stage it went faster than i thought. i know waiting with uncertainty is sucks.

Hi, thank you for your time in advance.

I'm a Japanese female and I'm getting married my American girlfriend.

We were thinking to apply K-1 visa so I was researching about it online including here then many people suggested me about CR-1 as I'm in the US with her 3 more weeks.

*I can't change my departure date as I already booked my flight and quarantine place in Japan. Also I have a sick aunty...

So we just started researching and preparing for CR-1 visa.

We can get marriage certificate but I don't know about Evidence of a Bonafide Marriage.

I'm here with tourist visa so I don't have SSN.

Which bank can we make joint account without SSN??

Or do you have any suggestions what I can get as Evidence of a Bonafide Marriage ??

*My partner lives in VA and we will get marriage certificate there but we are in AZ for my partner's work at the moment. So I hope we can find a bank here to make a joint account.

If you need any more information of me and my partner, please ask me!!

Also I'm always welcome any tips for the visa as I am really newbie for this visa and I don't have much time left here in the US...

    Thank you again.

it will be better if you can have a joint account, but as you said, it will be hard to do if you dont have SSN.

in my case, we didn't have any joint account, since we live separately after we get married. the other way to show that you have the evidence is through your pictures between you and your spouse, family and friends. you can also include the receipts of the gifts that you bought for your spouse and vice versa, and the E-ticket from your trips together or when you visit her or her visit you, that will also helps.

    @cs_bradshaw

i called uscis. They told me it got transferred March 11.

are u in the same situation?

my case didn't get transferred to other service center, took 9 months till we got approved even without transfer, lol.

but we had same experiences with the date changes, and my husband said it just the update that showing they are checking our case. so i think you shouldn't be worried about it, just keep checking your status at the USCIS site. :)

Anyone going through the same transfer problem ? Our cr1 case transferred from California  to Vermont. When u look at the time frame, Vermont is way slower than California processing time.

Timeline. Submitted cr1 visa- February 7,2020.

March12,2020- It says, ‘your benefit request has been accepted and is under review.’

august27,2020 - ‘your benefit request has been accepted and is under review’

what is that suppose to mean??Same thing but different dates??

when did your case got transferred to the Vermont?

Registering is part of step 2 of interview prep:

    https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-10-prepare-for-the-interview.html

For the Dublin Embassy there are instructions to register so that they know where to send your passport with the visa after in interview. It differs by embassy though and I see it's not listed as a step for the Tokyo Embassy so you're probably fine!

ahh, i see.... yeah, i didnt find that type of instruction in the US embassy here. but when i read your first post it just make me a bit nervous if i did miss some step after we got the interview date, because i got closer to the interview day.

  19. 15 hours ago, JenIE said:

For anyone on here who has received an interview appointment from the NVC, did you have any issues registering your appointment on the website? We just tried to register and confirm our info and we received the error: "The Immigrant Visa case number provided is not ready to schedule an appointment"

Do we just need to give it a bit more time for our case number to be in the system or did we do something wrong? We are not actually trying to schedule a new appointment but just register/confirm the appointment already given.

    Thanks!

i didn't know that we need to register it to the embassy website. are we supposed to do that?
