Boris, if I were you, I’d claim my victory and stop worrying. You waited over 1yr, if not 2yrs to get to this point. What is another couple weeks? As long as you haven’t committed any crimes, you’re approved. There’s a backlog on GC production and sometimes it takes 4-6 weeks to get an update. I wouldn’t stress myself out by calling and checking. Have confidence that you’ve been approved and watch what I tell you, you’ll get your card before you know it. Congratulations in advance. Happy Holidays.

Your case is at the local office. Its currently being worked on by the Officer. No one will have any information besides the Officer at the local office.

Because your case is VAWA it has strict privacy rules. You can NOT get any information on the phone or through online service requests. You can only contact VSC by paper mail. You can also use your congressperson or go in person to infopass.

Infopass is currently not an option due to the pandemic. If it was available you would simply use infopass to go to the local office and the worker at the intake window could send a message to the Officer to find out what is going on. Again this is not going to be possible right now.

You can send a letter to VSC. But that is going to take a long time and you probably wont hear anything back. Your letter would have to be mailed  and then routed through the mail system ending up with an Officer in Vermont. They would then have to contact the Officer in the local office who has your file- ask them what is going on- and then send you a letter back. As you know VSC has a heavy workload so your request to find out whats going on with your file at your local office will be low priority. You would most likely eventually get a generic letter back saying your case is at the local office being worked on.

The congressman is the best option if you have to inquire about what is going on at the local office. Your congressman would inquire with their liaison at USCIS who would then reach out to the local office and get answers which would then be relayed back to you through the congressman. Its better to use the congressman to do this rather then a letter to VSC because when you send a letter to VSC you dont know who will get your letter and can not follow up with them directly. Because of the delays related to the pandemic and overall increase in filings many people are using their congressman to inquire so you may have a longer wait for congressman assistance then you would have previously. But they are realistically the only way you can contact the local office right now. Again phone or online request is not an option and you are unlikely to get an infopass appt scheduled for this.

Since you were told at the interview that everything you submitted was good and she just needed to review something it may be that she is waiting on your background check to clear. Sometimes background checks can take extended periods of time depending on where you are from and where you have previously traveled or lived. It can also be that you share a name with someone with a criminal record so they have to make sure you are not that person.

As I said I would wait 30-60 days from the interview and if there has been no approval yet I would reach out to the congressman for assistance. They can inquire on what the hold up is and if it is because of background checks then at least you will know. There is nothing you can do about the delay in background checks though.

Thank you so much guys!!! I am gonna wait for some time and then if nothing change I will do the inquiry with congressman.

Hi Boris, you should be hearing something soon..it's not unusual with USCIS! Also the online status doesn't always display current status of your case..so have no fear. You made it already..congratulations!😊👍

Hey Stllwinning!!!☺️ Hopefully, because I already can't wait especially when there is no certain yes or no and I hate it. Thank you!!! Is there any other option I can check my status exept mail request?

The online system is a courtesy and is not always accurate. How did your interview go? Did you have all your documents (medical, birth certificates, etc)? Did they say they needed anything else from you and were going to RFE you for it? If not then you need to be patient a while longer. Sometimes Officers can not approve things in the interview and for various reasons that have nothing to do with you and need to have it signed off on by a supervisor. This can take 30-60 days for the Officer to give it to the supervisor and them to review it and the approval to be entered into the system. If you do not get an approval, denial, or RFE after 30-60 days from the interview you can contact your congressman to inquire on what the delay is. Its rare for things to get misplaced or overlooked but it can happen. Just keep an eye on the online status for it to change to card issued/case approved and if you havent already sign up for informed delivery from the post office where they email you a picture of the mail you will be receiving each day. You are almost at the end so hang in there! It will be over soon.

Should I try to give them another call maybe or it's pointless?

Hey! thank you for your reply! The interview went very smooth and good overall, I had everything officer need (birth certificate, medicals, passport, previous EADs and etc). Officer said she need to review something probably by the end of the week and gave me letter about review. She also said if everything is ok I wil get a GC within 2 weeks so today is basically 3 weeks after interview and idk how can I check my status. Case status stopped updating after transfer to NBC in January 2020, since then I only track my case by mail (got I360 approval letter, courtesy letter, interview letter). I called costumer service but they can't provide me this information.

  5. Update: interview was last week and end up with review, which officer said will be done by the end of week so I am just waiting now. Case status check is stuck on approval January 2020 so I can't see updates.

    Timeline:

    I360 submitted: September 2018

    RFE police clearance: December 2019

    Approved: January 2020

    Courtesy letter: July 2020

    Interview notice: October 2020

Thanks for the help everyone and good luck!

    Hey family,

I have my i485 interview already in 3 weeks. I need to take medical but nobody in my area has any appointments for me to do the physical.

I need to know how can I cancel my i485 ?

    Thank you

I agree with reply above and you need to keep calling doctors all around your area, but you shouldn't give up! In extremely worst case scenario you can go to LA for example or any other big city where you can find appointment for the next day, stay 2-3 more days and get your medicals and go back, you have plenty of time and options

    Hi everyone :)

So I decided to proceed with my request about I-485 status update with the congressman and sent them whatever USCIS asked to release info about my case. In a couple hours, we got a response from USCIS and they basically said my file was waiting in queue for interview. And today I got a letter from my local USCIS Office and I was in tears for 10 minutes. Interview Letter for October 22nd. I can’t wait to close this period of my life which has been full of worries. I was thinking it would take at least another 6-12 months for an interview. I was in shock with this letter. I’m wondering if contacting my congressman made it any quicker because the letter was sent just after my congressman reached out to them but who knows.

The idea of being free of all these worries....being free free.....finally having the freedom to move in case I want/need to because I have been avoiding it so that my mailing with USCIS wouldn’t be affected, etc etc etc. I haven’t even got a Greencard yet but it’s so f***ing close and I can’t wait for it. I wanna drink until I loose my consciousness even though I’m not a heavy drinker. Feelings... and more feelings....that’s been suppressed for so long now. Hardest time of my life so far....is about to be over. I just can’t believe I got this letter today. My feelings are all mixed together 🙈

Now I’m asking you to share with me how you guys prepared for your interview. What documents did you take with you? I don’t have a lawyer so I’ll be on my own. Please if someone has a checklist or the list you made before your interview....I’ll greatly appreciate 🙏🙏🙏 @sandranj @Stillwinning!!!😊 @Shroy123 @Claudia16049

Any VJ family member....please share your experience with me 😊🙈🤞🥰🤗

    TIMELINE:

    *July 2018 ........ I-360, I-485, I-765, I-131 filed all together

*(I’ll skip EAD and AP approvals and renewals, I don’t remember them)

    *January 2020 ........ I-360 approved

*June 2020 ...... RFE with I-485 from NBC (birth certificate), I sent my response in the same month

*September 2020 Interview letter for October 22, 2020

Hey! Congratulation!!! I am also in CA and was approved in  January 2020 so hopefully I will get the same letter any time soon. Good luck on the interview! You almost there!!!

received courtesy letter but I have seen few cases on facebook whose i485 was approved without interview. Most of them were those who submitted i485 after vawa approval so they sent their medicals with the form

I have seen only family-based and employment-based I-485 approval without interview with RFE for medicals right before it. I also got courtesy letter few weeks ago from NBC

NBC usually sends the courtesy letter to ensure you get the outstanding documents together in preparation for your interview before they transfer your case to your local office! Sometimes your case moves forward without you getting any update!😊👍

So does it mean the case was reviewed and was transferred or about to be transferred to the local office? If yes what is approximate time for the next step? I know it's hard to predict but I can't wait to have it done lol

Hi, my I360 was approved January 2020, got my approval letter in March 2020. And this week I got RFE  with my I485 for birth certificate. From NBC. I’m in CA too.

I had sent them a birth certificate document with my original application package but they are saying it’s insufficient. I’ll see what I can do... I hope this won’t cause a long delay for my future interview date...

Thank you for your response, Looks like I should wait for a few more weeks because you was approved a little bit earlier then me so it's gonna happen soon...                                       hopefully
