I saw someone also had X months between the interview/decision, and the oath.  I know of a guy who claimed he waited over 18months after his interview and only got his ceremony after reaching out to his representative. but idk if he was just exaggerating.

That might be me, I used to post here a fair bit.

I did indeed wait 18 months for a decision. It is unusual though.

My daughter had interview in Brooklyn javits center on January 24th and got scheduled for oath ceremony same day for the Friday Jan 28 th . For passport when I did mine I paid extra for expedited service.

I'm confused. The Javits Center is in Manhattan and as far as I know all the interviews are conducted at Federal Plaza, including for Brooklyn applications. You're saying she was interviewed for N-400 at Javits Center?

I had my citizenship interview today and he asked me if I had filled out my dual nationality form, which I said no I didn’t think there was one and he said I had to do it before my oath ceremony.

Cab anyone help with what form this is?

I suspect he was confused about the requirements of the UK in order to keep UK citizenship.

Some countries (eg: Germany) require you to apply to be a dual national before becoming a citizen of a new country, otherwise you lose your previous nationality. The UK has no such requirements though.

I did my n400 interview on August 29, I was given a paper indicating that I passed but a decision cannot be made. The officer wrote in the paper ( Related A 206 321 …I don’t what this mean. It over 120 days but still no decision was made. Can someone please tell me what to do because I’m really confused

Have you had a green card or immigration benefit before with a different A number?

I suspect they noticed another file in their system for you with a different record number, and need to get it pulled from their archives.

Recent examples I’ve read why one should have had an attorney:

    * LPR was mistakenly issued a 10 year green card.  At N-400 interview IO rail roads her into withdrawing her N-400 because there was no I-751.  There is no way I would ever voluntarily withdraw a petition because USCIS messed up and I suspect neither would competent lawyer

    * LPR got green card through employment and was married for 3 years to someone who was a USA citizen for 3 years at the time  N-400.  At N-400 interview, IO invents a policy that says one can naturalize at 3 years only if the petitioner was the spouse.  A comely ent lawyer would have forced the IO to cite the written policy and in turn quoted policy and case and got that LPR a positive decision.

Statistically most N-400 cases don’t need an attorney. Just like statistically most car trips don’t need a seat belt. But when someone rear ends you …

    Very good examples.

As @Mike E said, the vast vast majority of interviews go completely normally without issue. It's unusual, but not unheard of for an interview to get de-railed. I took a lawyer to mine, as it was an important interview and I can afford it.

Spoke to a rep on the phone and basically forced them to put me in queue to speak to the officer, I was told to expect a call within the next 30 days.

Can't think of anything complicated. Everything is pretty straightforward I think.

I called a few attorneys and they said suing isn't good right now because USCIS just uses COVID as an excuse and that's enough of an excuse right now.

I keep reading about people who applied way after myself  and have completed their journey a while ago.

One other thing I've read that you could try is making a FOIA request. It may or may-not help, but I don't think it can hurt.

There's a thread here about others that are doing it:

I did all of that, send an out of processing time request and they said: we cannot give you an update on this case.

ombudsman hasn't replied since, its been a month.

representatives haven't gotten back to me still

    I'm losing it

Unless you want to sue, there isn't too much else you can do right now.

I'd keep sending an out of processing time request every 30 days.

Are there any other reasons why it could be taking longer? eg: complicated immigration history, unfriendly country of Birth?

Good point @ African Zealot. I am thinking of waiting maybe just a month, not till 90 days to take that step. Thanks you for your response.

As one of the posters above mentioned, Senators, Representatives and even the Ombudsman can't force USCIS to do anything, but in my opinion it helps to keep the pressure on. It also helps with your own sanity, knowing that you are doing everything you possibly can do.

In my case, I was pretty sure moving states was going to get the case moving, which it did. If that hadn't worked, my final plan was to sue.

  9. You can technically sue them after 120 days, but I'd wait longer before going down that path.

Is your case outside USCIS processing times for your field office? You can check here:

    https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

I'd be contacting my senators and representative for help, and also the USCIS Ombudsman if your case is outside office processing times.

There is another very good thread for people in your situation here:

Read through this, so you can understand all the options. Unfortunately this situation is becoming more and more common these days.

My friend is an immigration attorney

he said , if u sue USCIS they will finds a tiny problem denied  your case

Today is 8 months after interview

I Hope the miracle will happen in 2022 January

    because 2021 is so suck

Don't give up, and try not to become too dis-spirited, I had a 17 month wait after my interview.

What got mine over the line was moving to a different state. The day they processed the AR-11, they approved the case. I suspect they Case Officer didn't want someone else looking at her case-work, so just approved it rather than do the transfer.

So whoever said the ombudsman's office is totally useless, that is the understatement of the year. Got this response after I told them it had been over 120 days since the interview. Which qualifies for their attention since it's a statutory limitation on the USCIS, they legally have to adjudicate.

That's right. They didn't even bother to fill in my receipt date and USCIS office. They literally just sent me a template. Is this a joke?

Yes, they won't even look at your case until it's outside of the processing times for your field office. Just keep checking on the dates to see when your case goes outside and file another ombudsman case then.

They still won't do much, but at least it's keeping some pressure on USCIS.

My I-751 approval notice says.. we have approved your i 751 , and record indicated we have also approved your n-400. You will not receive new green card, instead you will receive oath…… but n-400 status remains same

That sounds good. It sounds like everything is progressing normally then.

Don't worry about your online status, that is often not updated.

What does your i -751 approval notice state about green card delivery ? Does it say anything about N-400? What’s the current status of the N-400? You’re right it’s a great relief that I-751 is approved. I worried a lot about the stamp. My previous stamp already expired.

I don't have the notice any more, but it didn't say anything about the N-400.

After receiving the Green Card, my case sat for the next year and a half with no movement at all until I moved states. They approved the case the day they processed my AR-11.

I have a update ; so they approved my I -751 exactly two weeks after interview but N400 still says ‘ interview was scheduled’

    Very similar to my case.

I had a combo interview for I-751 and N-400 (although she didn't have the I-751 file to hand, bizarrely she asked my lawyer if he had it with him!?!).

My I-751 was approved exactly 3 weeks after the interview, before the mammoth 1.5 year wait.

Congratulations on your I-751 approval though, at least you don't need to worry about getting I-551 stamps etc.

Hey everyone, I’m kinda new here. Having an issue with my current N400 application, IF ANYONE has ANY advice I’d greatly appreciate it. Here’s the timeline

FIled based on residency in Manhattan. App is at NBC

    Case received: May 24, 2020

    Biometrics Reuse notice: 02/11/2021

    AND NOTHING STILL

I have contact Senator Gillibrand, they haven’t been able to get any new info, they said it was within normal processing time. Today the time shortened and now I’m outside of normal processing times. I submitted a request and emailed the senator again. USCIS processing times page says they’re currently reviewing apps submitted on June 17, 2020 which is 1 months after my application received date!!!

If I was you, I'd also do the following:

    - Contact your representative (If you're in 12th district, Carolyn Maloney's office is particularly helpful)

    - File a case with the USCIS ombudsman

    - Start sending an 'Out of processing time request' every month

Other than that, there isn't a great deal else you can do unless you want to sue them.

I have filed N400 application for 5 months. There is still another 9 months waiting for the interview in my field office. My employer offers me an option to relocate to another state where the N400 processing time is only between 6.5~13 months. I understand it's better not to change address during the waiting time because the case transfer might delay the process. But for my situation, is it possible my waiting time might be shorter instead?

For me, changing states unjammed my case.

I'd been waiting 1.5 years for a decision after the interview. The same day they processed my paperwork to change states, they approved the case.

He was an extremely nice officer, he said “see ik u may be nervous but be assured that everything is fine, I just need to organize your file as you Have I -751 pending .I’ll do it later today or tomorrow and you will see approval in 2-3 days” he checked decision can’t be made and uscis will mail the notice this two boxes. The status remains ‘ interview was scheduled’. I called 800 number today. They said they can only see ‘interview initiated’ idk what that means. Is it possible that he processed the applications and mailed something but didn’t update online ? I’m saying this because he didn’t seem to be a promise breaker.

It could be out of his hands, he may have had to pass it to his supervisor to approve. Right now all you can do is wait.

I had my conbo interview (I-751 & N-400) in Brooklyn on December 1st. Everything was smooth , at the end the officer told me he needs to organize my file as I had two interviews and I should be receiving update within 2-3 days. But as of today there’s no update and status remains same ‘ interview was scheduled’ . Any suggestions or information?

There's not much you can do for 4 months now, except wait and try not to worry about it too much. You'll probably hear something in the next few weeks though.

Which box did he check on the sheet of paper he gave you? (Decision cannot be made, or approved). Also, what does your online status say?

Hey its been a while i came back to this forum and i am glad you are done with the process. That moving out of state worked for you, Great. Also you saved money by not filing Mandamus.

Thank you my friend, yes also very glad to be done with it all, and also happy to help out other people stuck in the same situation now!

On the above post i am puzzled that why they denied since they had no valid reason according to the OP. filing 336 will mean more money but its worth it if it was denied wrongfully.

I too, am very confused by this. I'd at least want to find out the exact reason for the denial, so that I could deal with it.
