About 1,000 employees in the Kansas City area working for the National Benefits Center, an agency under the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, received notice on Friday that their jobs face elimination in what would be one of the largest mass layoffs of the year for the region. National Benefits Center has offices in Lee’s Summit and Overland Park. The NBC’s largest workload is Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, and Form N-400, Application for Naturalization.
NBC also serves as centralized hub for appointment scheduling and notifications.

And people are still working, that doesn't mean many others aren't.
The article doesn't state no one is filling.
The article states the USCIS effect of the pandemic on the budget.
What’s the connection between the pandemic and the USCIS budget? People have not stopped filing because of the pandemic. Fees are still being paid. -

I don't even consider it as an article. At least Washington Times and Fox quote an USCIS official:
https://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/may/15/citizenship-agency-faces-drastic-coronavirus-cash-/
“Given the unprecedented nature of the global pandemic, there is no historical data that can be used to project the scope and duration of COVID-19’s impact on USCIS’ revenue,”
“USCIS will exhaust its funding this summer, and without congressional intervention, we risk not being able to make payroll and will have to take drastic actions to keep the agency afloat,”
What does it have to do with the pandemic. People are still filing applications.

Well but any application that is submitted within US, fees goes to uscis. Visa fees for visas issued overseas goes to state department. Asylum applications are small numbers compare to numerous other categories.
Yes that’s true. So what would explain the budget shortfall then

That would be very strange because thousands of applications are being filed to uscis, its just that they are not doing in person interviews. Major effect would be to overseas embassies who can not issue any visa right now. Btw uscis is still processing applications and cashing out fees with those applications, so i wonder if this article is reality or more political.
I believe the state department gets the fees for the visas not the USCIS.
The issue is drop in applications, example with asylum applications, with the same level of staffing . That’s my assumption.

Does anyone know when the hiring freeze will be lifted?
Earlier only Field operations was affected. Now ALL of uscis is on a hiring freeze.

I am not worried about that since my interview was already scheduled.
And from the link you provides interviews waved was only for I -485 cases.
Yes that’s the whole premise of this discussion. That it has been only provided for Green card cases so far.

Doubt that honestly, havent even read about it in the news. So lets wait and see until June 4th I hope we will get the new interview date at least instead of another month extention.
One, It's all over the news, just go a simple google search and even look at other Visajourney forums.
Second, come June 4th even if they open, there's a 3 months backlog of appointments that need to happen.
-
There’s no official anouncement from the uscis but according to the AILA (Immigation lawyers Association) and forum posts online people are being approved wit no interview.

No that will not happend my friend.
Its not posibile.
They have waived interviews for green cards though.

Great news but wish there had been a push for naturalization interviews as well, that's a significantly bigger backlog than those waiting for the oath. The interviews seem to have been forgotten.

Estimated completion times are back in the online USCIS account

The estimation is so inaccurate anyways. It's better to track the N-400 interview dates here on VJ topic about your local USCIS field office.
It’s been accurate for some people though. Still the question is why would they remove it. Seems odd

The Trump administration has issued a hiring freeze for non-asylum officers at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, pausing any new onboarding for positions related to benefits and programs for legal immigrants.

Philadelphia filer here too, applied 11/22 biometrics on 12/20. No movement since, just waiting.
@MohU3 congratulations on the interview being scheduled. You able to share your timeline?

Are Naturalization interviews only scheduled once the 3/5 year date has passed?
I know they can be submitted 3 months ahead but just wondering if they’re only scheduled beyond the anniversary date.
I remember reading somewhere that oaths can be administered only after the anniversary date (and some places have a same day oath)
Has anyone actually had an interview prior to their anniversary date?

Hello everyone, my interview was completed today.
However, even though I got the approval, the Uscis made an error and they mistakenly have two profiles for me so they need to link both of the profiles together. Once completed they will send me the oath ceremony invite which could take up to 30 days.
There were a lot of people there today and I got to my appointment at 12:30 but the time set for the interview was at 1. I didn’t actually get interviewed until 3pm which took about 30 mins.
Questions asked:who is the senator for your state?
who is the Vice President?
what is the capital of Your state?
how many voting members are there for the House of Representatives?
What is the constitution?
what is the rule of law?

Interesting, so it appears that there's a hiring freeze at the USCIS service centers and field offices.

USCIS lays off over 1000 contractors due to financial shortfalls
in US Immigration News and Discussion
Posted · Edited by PhillyNatz
In a statement, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services confirmed it reduced the scope of its contract for NBC but provided no further details.
It’s a notice for lay-off in a week’s time is how I read it.
