Advance Parole allows you to travel internationally and come back in to the USA with usually no issues. This allows you to travel without abandoning  the AOS process.

It is by far the exception that somebody is denied entry with a valid AP document. Just don't leave before it is in hand, don't forget it, don't break laws abroad, don't try to smuggle anything in, and you should be perfectly fine.
Also, watch for mail from USCIS to make sure you don't get an RFE/RFIE while abroad and miss the deadline for a response. USPS Informed Delivery (free) can help.

It works. Many thousands people use it. If you have EAD/AP combo card, it’s like a de facto green card.
    Couples of comments:

    1. Standard CBP procedure when someone shows up with AP is to send them to secondary, where they can verify if your I-485 is still pending before you can be “paroled” in. So do plan for an additional 45 mins or something if you need to make your connection.

    2. Some small airline check-in staff at some remote unpopular airport may not know what combo card or AP is and give you a hard time when checking in as they only recognize either a US visa or green card. It may take some times to convince them and they may ask you to sign something to the effect that you will be responsible for the cost of transportation home if you were to be denied entry to the US
