ebenf got a reaction from Joey B in K1 Visa Rejected Due to Lack of Evidence of Relationship (Vietnam)
    Reapply and show-up in in-person.

At the embassy ins Vietnam, we saw nearly everyone get rejected who came alone.

Those with a US Citizen with them, far fewer. It's an obvious sign of commitment.

Vietnam should be reopening again soon, go see and spend some time together, document and reapply.

Or, just get married in Vietnam and apply for a Marriage visa. Probably easier at this point.

If she is entering US on a F4 visa, she becomes the permanent resident once she steps in the US. With SSN, she can work without any restrictions or time limitation.

F4 is an immigrant visa.  Once the visa holder enters the US, they immediately gain permanent resident status, with authorization to work and all the rights of LPRs.  No need to go through Adjustment of Status.  Their LPR status does not expire after 1 year.

ebenf got a reaction from Chancy in Things to prepare for work during K1 AOS/ EAD waiting time
You can technically start applying for jobs and even get offers before your EAD, and then use this to expedite the processing.

Regarding how to prepare, there is likely benefit in:
Finding networking events, attending community events and messaging people on LinkedIn with the intent of setting up information interviews (google it, there is a very set structure to these). Would focus on how you're new to the US, and want to learn XXX industry here. Do those interviews and take very good notes. Figure out what you want to do, as a country move is likely good justification for any career change you were hoping to make. There is a lot of learn about US business culture for most people in AOS, so this is very helpful. Deliver value to those companies and show what working with you is like. Simply put, I would try to take something said about a pain point in that industry or your interviewee's company and deliver value. An example is that when I exited school I had someone tell me in an informational that the hardest part about their industry is "have people that can distinguish the forest from the trees," which I understood to mean switching from type 1 to type 2 thinking at work, so I searched academic articles until I could find some research that documented how walking meeting helped with this. I then made a small memo (1 page), very pretty visuals as a thank you for taking the time. The results was that it led to an offer from this company to a job interview and eventually a job offer. I would not worry if this is considered work, as you are allowed to apply for jobs and such technical skill assessments are common in the job search process.  Use those interviews to pre-qualify employer offers, meaning knowing what type of employers are likely to work with while your status is pending, and potentially receive offers that you can leverage to expedite your processing.  Hope this helps!

Hi all, we had our interview completed on June 21 and our case was approved on June 22, received the actual card in the mail last night! Thank you all for your advice and encouragement throughout the way and see you in about 2 years!

P.S. Does anyone have some insights/tips on how to best reach out to the local SSA to book an appointment to update SSN card info? Could never get through the phone line. Thanks!

My now wife and I would go on movie dates. We'd both go see the same movie, around the same time on the weekends. She was in Vietnam, I in Dallas so it was roughly a 12 hour difference, so it was early morning movies for me and later night movies for her. We'd then both get popcorn and the same soda. You'd be surprised how much something like that can make you feel connected. Perhaps it's not a movie, if that's even possible during COVID, and most people do things with their partners where you're with each other and not interacting. Doing those things will help reduce that feeling.
