    My received her interview date this week.  We are May 5, 2020 DQ.

    Like everyone else, getting an appointment with IOM seems to be the next hurdle.  At least things seem to be moving.

    if you check the word portal above takes you directly to your embassy and looking at the right hand column , there are no upcoming interviews listed by VJ members

    CR1/ IR1 cases are scheduled between NVC and the embassies so if any are scheduled and at embassy the members would know and hopefully put on their timeline here on their profile

    the website says this:
    The U.S. Embassy has resumed limited processing of immigrant visas, in accordance with the priorities set out by the Department of State. We ask for your patience as our current capacity for visa processing is severely reduced due to COVID-19 safety precautions. We are faced with a significant backlog in most visa categories and all applicants should expect significant delays.

    It seems many who have been part of this thread have been granted their Visas. May the same path follow the rest of us still in the journey.

    Finally!!! I can do the happy dance...🎊🎈🎉...We passed, or should I say he passed.

    Update: He started early so we did a quick video chat right before he got in. He was there 30minutes early. There seemed to be only few people at first but then more people showed up later.

    Anyway, the person interviewing him asked him few questions regarding our relationship etc. and then went on to ask why he needs to be in US urgently. The whole process took less than 2 hours and he was approved. They will be sending his passport and other documents to the location we picked for the courier. Phewww glad this mess is over. Now we can book a ✈️.

    As for talking to others to get an idea of people’s statuses, he said it was nearly impossible because of the restrictions placed forward for social distancing. He did talk to some few folks who left the embassy the same time as he did but they were non-immigrant visa with an emergency to fly out for medical reasons.

    But this is not good. Before March 15th they were back on full scale. They had even gotten to people from last Feb & March. Now they have gone back to phase one shutdown and only working by limited appointments. Most employees are working remotely. We are still waiting for the interview appointment even though they said we should expect to hear from them by the 17th with a date. It’s the 22nd and haven’t heard back from either the NVC or the consulate. Was on 1hr 36 minutes hold When I called NVC.

    Hopefully once the vaccine starts to kick-in in Nairobi and the COVID numbers go down,  then maybe they may fully reopen the embassy.

    Hi all,

    Just spoke with NVC and though they could not update me on the progress of my case, other than when it was DQ'd (2Apr2020 - IR1), they advised that Nairobi is open and doing interviews. They said Nairobi seems to be done with past cancelled cases and are taking on new cases, that is those on the waiting list.

    That was all I got after a 50 minute wait to speak to someone.

    Hello,
    my spouse is applying for the CR1 visa. We are currently living in Israel, but I am thinking of moving back to the US earlier. He already has a tourist (B2) visa and I know he can legally visit me but may be turned away at the boarder. Has anyone successfully visited their spouse living abroad in this situation? Especially for a few months at a time?

    It is difficult to obtain a visitor visa (assuming you don't have one yet) because to do so you have to demonstrate you have no immigrant intent. With an ongoing spousal petition, it will be clear to the CO you intend to immigrate so that's an uphill battle;

    If you DO have the visitor visa already, you might be allowed into the country but that will all depend on the CBP officer you encounter.

    Some are willing to give people a chance;

    Some have learnt that many people with a visitor visa and an American spouse enter the country and never leave, and those might give you a harder time;

    No matter what, NEVER LIE. If you use a visitor visa to enter the country, you will be asked what the purpose of your visa is. To adjust status on your visit you would have to LIE because your plan is to immigrate.

    Lie at the border = fraud. No one here will advise that, ever.

    All you say to Immigration officers gets recorded. Don't jeopardize your future, stick to the spousal visa and follow the rules even if the wait is long.

    1.  No
    2.  No.  You cannot legally enter the US via a tourist visa with the intent to stay and adjust status......that is visa fraud.
