I am in a similar situation- we had health insurance but due to previous infertility, I was dropped from the insurance as soon as I got pregnant. Talk to your doctor and hospital, there are discounts and payment plans available for those without insurance; this would enable your wife to still see her own doctor and choose her own hospital. If you have savings right now, ask about pre-pay options: we got a 30% discount on the already discounted self-paying rate by paying everything at once at the first appointment.
If there are no complications, a birthing center with midwives is a cheaper option than hospital birth.

I’m gonna leave you with this.

    1. My fiancée isn’t sponsored by a Starbucks gift card I got from my auntie on Christmas morning. No further detail necessary.

    2. It sounds to me like these people shouldn’t have been getting married in the first place. If you’re going to abandon your fiancee or spouse then you’re a real POS.  Luckily, neither of us are sociopaths. Is your advice for nobody to pursue a K1 visa just because some people are abandoned by their fiancées/spouses? I’ve said nothing to imply that I would do this.

    3. Do you mean that we shouldn’t ask for advice on a topic that’s unrelated to my employment status because a mass quantity of people on this website can’t stop leaping on the opportunity to tell someone to get a job?

“Hey guys how can I obtain health insurance on a K1 visa?”

    “GET A JOB!!!!!”

“Hey visajourney, what do you like eating for breakfast?”

”WHY AREN’T YOU IN AN OFFICE BUILDING DYING INSIDE LIKE WE ARE!!!”

    Every. Single. Post. Without. Fail.

Yet, I’m still not bankrupt! Unemployed =/= broke. Unemployed =/= abandoning your loved one.

Neither my fiancée or I wanted to discuss my employment when this post was made. I don’t know why the mods let this keep being the end result of every post we make... My fiancée just wanted more info about health insurance. I may as well just make a new account to ask for advice and say I work at Jamba Juice so you guys get off of my back and we get the useful relevant information we need without the uninvited hassle!

Let me close with this. I get receiving a genuine inquiry about my financial situation. Some people may not be familiar with me and the 1,000 times I’ve explained it. That’s fine. But after I explain it, it’s never good enough.

My fiancee has savings, and we have a joint sponsor; if money were an issue I doubt we would've gotten approved. My question was simple: what kind of insurance do I need before and after I'm issued a greencard? Obviously I can't get anything permanent on the K1 since I will not be a permanent resident until I receive a greencard. So, what insurance should I be getting?

The way you worded that implies it is the government's money to "hand out" and they already have it in their possession. Unless you are talking about people who don't owe anything and still get a "refund" (which I agree needs to end) this money belongs to and is in the possession the people who are being compelled to hand it over under penalty of law. Let's call it what it is. A tax cut is not a hand out. It is simply the government saying to the people you can keep more of your money this year. All the taxes collected by the federal government are barely enough to pay the interest on our debt. Tax revenue is a small part of the problem compared to wasteful spending but I won't get into that topic right now.

I think we should throw away the whole tax code and make it very simple. 15% tax across the board for everyone. First $50k earned for single filing is tax free. First $100k earned for married filing is tax free and maybe add a little more onto that per dependent. That would benefit the lower to mid middle class and force companies like Amazon, Apple, GE, ect who have paid no taxes in recent years to pay their fair share.

Over all I agree with you that we need to stay out of their business. I am certainly against sending troops there as some neocons have proposed. There are some credible concerns about the legitimacy of their government and the sanctions are nothing compared to the socialist policies of recent years. However I oppose intervention in the affairs of other nations unless they pose a real threat to our national security.
