I got my card after a couple of weeks in the mail... so not too long of a wait.
During the interview the IO told me, my EAD won't be valid anymore because he approves my green card. But I was supposed to start my new job a few days later and needed it because the employer wanted a copy.
So, they put the I-551 stamp in my passport. Maybe you could ask, if you could get one too... just so you can travel internationally. It's at least worth asking.

The Buckeye State!
Hm... 🤔
That's actually not even too far away. Lol
I mean, at least it's not on the other side of the country.

I built everything out of old barnwood... you've got some? Lol
What state do you live in?

How about we find a way to train dogs to organize junk drawers? All problems are solved.
That sounds like a good plan!
All my dog is able to do is getting into the trash can and eat junk. Lol
Fun fact... the picture I have as a profile picture is my dog photoshopped as a colonel. I have it poster sized and framed, hanging above the fireplace in my living room. I love it! Best investment ever. Lol

I'm not American but I have several junk drawers just like @MalinRonja... as I am preparing to move to the US I am feeling all the emotions....
can I really throw away this phone charger from 20XX?
I'm old 😅
I took some random stuff with me when I moved... and I only had 3 suitcases in total. And sent one box with books overseas before I left. That's it.
Took an old tin sign with me that I got from my grandparents when I was in elementary school.
Also, I actually do have one of my old phones with me here. Never used it. Isn't even a smartphone... can't even use it here because of the incompatibility of the sim cards or whatever it is. Lol

Living in Korea. Agility classes are a lot cheaper/ you join a club.
A friend had his dog enrolled and I researched it for our eventual move only to discover the times/price just didn't work.
Why do the have agility classes at 11am??? (that might be my home country.. not the US) I did a compare and contrast between our two countries 🤣
11 am? On a normal weekday or on a weekend?! Weekend wouldn't be too bad... but on a regular work day would be kind of odd and difficult. Lol

She is fascinated by the junk drawer in the kitchen and really wants to get her hands on it. I keep telling her a junk drawer is an American tradition and every household has one, but she wants to eliminate that mess.
Hey! Not only American tradition... also German! 🧐☝
In fact, I had a different junk drawer in every room... a kitchen junk drawer, a living room junk drawer, etc.. Lol

You are living my dream.
I so want to do agility training with my eventual dog but we live in an urban area so it costs $70 per lesson
and we we won't have the space to create our own trail.
Haha 😁
Thank you! I take it as a compliment.
I'm so glad to live in a rural area. I hate cities. Even though I lived in one before I moved here. Couldn't imagine to ever go back to one.
I couldn't even find a dog trainer or anything in our area. Needed help with some behavior issues, but there was nothing within a two hour drive. Lol

Not sure, if I'm an exception... but I had absolutely no problem with being unemployed for months. Lol
When I arrived, I tried to make myself feel at home. I tidied up, cleaned, painted every room of the house, fixed broken things, started woodworking, built shelves, worked in the yard, and so on... I did everything that I never had the time or energy for when I was still living in Germany.
I live in a very rural area. So, I also explored the woods, went hiking, etc. Then after a few weeks, I also adopted a dog from the shelter and spend all my free time with him. I built him a fence, bed, an agility trail, etc...
Time actually flew by.
Wish I could have been unemployed even longer. I didn't get everything done that I wanted to get done 😁

It has been in the news, IRS website, and in social media not to file paper returns if you want a quick tax return. So you will have to wait until they process paper returns which can be up to more than one year after you filed.
Well, yeah. I know...
It wasn't my decision to paper file. It was my husband's. And it's been 15 months since we filed. IRS states in the news that they will "probably" get 2020 tax returns done by the end of December.

cover our butt by sending email to IRS asking about the holdup of 2020 taxes
print it out and take it with copy of original 1040 and W2's to interview (copies u need the original for your records )
Where do you find an email address to contact them? Have already tried that months ago, but didn't find anything.

That was a mistake........Normally, you don't get anything from the IRS after filing other than a transcript which is available when you request it. You should use a copies of the tax return packages for immigration purposes.
Well, before I sent the second one, I looked online, if it could harm any to send another one... I know, it technically makes no sense to do it, but other than rejecting it, nothing should happen.
As I said, I just hoped it might trigger something. And even if it's just "we refused your tax return because we already received one". I just want ANYTHING from them.

No, got some other stuff, too.
For example:
- 401k beneficiary
- life insurance beneficiary
- health insurance beneficiary
- same car insurance policy
- authorized user of same credit card
- mutual address on driver's license, carry permit, letters, etc.
- pictures
But we already used some of the stuff for our AOS application. I'll just send it again anyway.

any written notice from IRS saying received it /not yet working on it?
other than the phone calls?
No, unfortunately not.
When I sent the last inquiry last fall, they said they would send me something in the mail. Never received anything.

On your own? Or with an accountant? If you went to a CPA you should have signed an agreement form that could back up that you filed jointly.
Yes, on our own. No accountant.

I think so 🤔
But I'll double check!

Hey there 😊
Been a while since I started my own topic. But now I'm a little lost and could need some guidance.
So, any help will be appreciated!
I have to file for ROC in a couple months and already started to get everything together. Problem is, we still haven't received anything from the IRS about our jointly filed 2020 taxes. And this would be the only joint tax return I could provide to the USCIS.
We paper filed in February 2021.Unfortunately, we don't know the exact day because the only copy we kept wasn't signed or dated yet, as well as it was send without a tracking number or anything. So, we don't have a receipt either (stupid, I know). Both of us have called the IRS multiple times throughout the past year and requested inquiries. They tell us, they received the tax return, but haven't worked on it yet. In our online accounts or in the "where's my refund" section is no information at all. Not even that it was received.
Now it's been four months since either of us talked to the IRS because it's not possible to get anyone on the phone anymore.
I got a little desperate and nervous, so I thought, I'm gonna try a different strategy... I sent another 2020 tax return about a month ago. Hoping it would either trigger an error message and the IRS tells me they already received one and start working on it... or start working on the new one.
Well, neither has happened yet. But at least I kept a signed copy and also sent the letter with a tracking number, so I have proof and a receipt.
I'm still hoping, I will get ANY response by the time I have to file for ROC. But I've been wondering...
What happens, if I don't?
I was thinking that I could write a letter explaining the situation and also send the first unsigned copy, as well as the new signed copy and the receipt of the new one. But other than that, I have no idea what to do. Especially, if they're gonna send me an RFE for it. I most likely can't provide anything.
I'll be more than thankful, if someone with experience and knowledge can help me out! I'm starting to panic a little over here 😰

I am aware that I may be able to satisfy the financial requirements by showing liquid assets -- which I have already done on my affidavit of support, but I am concerned that they might not view cash in the bank as an adequate substitute for income. My understanding is that a lot of this is at the discretion of the individual official who is evaluating my application. So it is possible that all of this is academic, if they approve me based purely on my savings.
Not exactly the same case and process as yours... but... when we applied for AOS, my husband still had his job and therefore income. By the time we had the interview, he was laid off and we had an updated Affidavit of Support, which ONLY showed his assets. Which were purely savings in his bank and 401k. We got approved on the spot.

From the time of submitting application for AOS, what is an approximate length of time to receive the green card approval?
Mine was six months... DURING covid. So, I would say, it varies a lot.

I know it has been few months since you commented.. but wanted to ask you where did you get your German diploma translated?
I'm working on my husband's application (also from Germany) and I was sooo confused with it lol he is even confused how he can explain it. I've watched some videos and I understand Ausbildung but wasn't sure if this needs to be translated or not.
I used this website:
https://uebersetzernetzwerk.net/
Very nice guy. Easy process.
I just sent an email explaining what I want and a pdf file of the document, they send a quote, I transfer the moneyand they send the translation. That's it.

I also didn't change my name with the SSA yet, because I refuse to send all my original documents by mail 😬
But I don't think it's a big deal. My driver's license, greencard, bank account, insurances and work information are all with my married name and no one has complained so far, even though my SSN is still connected to my maiden name.
So I will definitely wait to change it until I the offices will reopen.

I just wanted to give an update...
The IRS processed the second tax return, which I sent in April 2022.
I'm starting to think that the first one we sent in February 2021 belonged to the over 30,000,000 unprocessed tax returns that got destroyed in March 2021.
Well, but anyway.
At least I finally got SOMETHING 😁
