    Hi.

To get your license you need a SSN. So you can go to the Social Security office close to you to process. You don't need you AOS pending yet.

The attached document will be helpful.

The dps website is also a good resource. If you want to talk, you can send a dm.

Rayson, you have helped me immensely, thanks so much!

  2. AOS Packet sent: 1/10/2020

    AOS Packet received: 1/13/2020

    Text Notification: 1/16/2020

Oh & FYI my husband & I attempted to go obtain a SSN for him in Houston, TX & after waiting for nearly 3 hours, we were informed that their policy is to wait at least 21 days from entry date on I-94 to issue a SSN, no exceptions. So that was a huge waste of time.🙃

Let me state what i did.

    1. I initially got the license and it was valid till when my I94 expired (Nov 19)

    2. When the validity was about to expire, i went to a mega center in Houston (Gessner) to ask for a renewal as i had not passed the road test and the date for the road test is in December

    3. I was told by the lady that attended to me at the dps that they would need to check if the validity date is still Nov 19 on their system

    4. She confirmed it is still showing Nov 19

    5. I asked them for a 2nd verification

    6. She ordered a 2nd verification and gave me a peace of paper. She asked that i called the number on the paper in 3 to 5 days to confirm if my status has been verified

    7. I called after 3 days (the number is for the dps verification center in Austin) and the fellow that picked confirmed i have been verified and that i can go pick up my license.

    8. I went there today and the paper license was printed with a 1 year validity.

So i suggets you try again.

    1. I assume you have filed your AOS and done the bio-metrics (i somehow think that the verification is tied to this, not certain though)

    2. Go to a mega center (you can check online for the mega centers in your city in Texas). Go with your NOA1 for the AOS

    3. Tell them you want to renew or obtain a license

    4. If they claim they can't verify your status, ask for a second verification. Tell them they should carry out a 2nd verification, it would take 3 to 5 days

Someone gave me this points and i used it and it worked for me. Went to the dps on Monday and went back for my license today.

    Hi Rayson,

I just arrived in houston via a K1 at the start of the month, I've also sent off my AOS. I want to start driving ASAP, and because we're both in Houston i'm hoping to copy exactly what you did, but i'm unsure of some of the steps to take. I'd appreciate it if you could help me.

To initially get your first license what was needed (e.g SSN, confirmation that AOS was pending, Texas state I.D)

And what steps did you take and how long did it take?

Any info would help a lot,

    Thankyou

See if this helps:  https://ceac.state.gov/GENNIV/Help/Content/Recovering an Application after Session Time Out.htm and/or what's below:

    • Use Chrome as your browser. Many have reported no problems when using Chrome
    • Use your browser's private or incognito mode.
    • Disable browser plugins.
    • Use only 1 tab when filling out the form.  Do NOT have the form open on multiple tabs.
    • Press "SAVE" every time you finish a page of the form.
    • If the session times out again:
    • Clear browser cookies and cache.
    • Close the browser (not just the tab), wait a minute, re-open browser.
    • Retrieve application and continue filling out the form.

Thanks! I will regroup & try all of these things today. I got frustrated yesterday & gave up.

Lots of people have had issues with the online DS-160 application (though my wife didn't have any problems). About the only thing that's worked is trying something different in how you're getting to the site.

Have you tried a different web browser? From a computer instead of a phone/tablet (or vis versa)? Somewhere with a different internet connection?

Ok, so it’s not just us. I’m using a google chromebook so it defaults to google chrome browser & my fiancé tried on his laptop using internet explorer. I guess I’ll try on my work desktop computer tmrw 🤞🏽🤞🏽

  6. Hello All! I am a little confused about step 1 on the PDF. I  just want to make certain that I am filling it out correctly before submitting....

    • I clicked the link, filled out all the info on the Ask NVC page, up until the big box that says "type your question below"
    • My understanding from reading the PDF document is that I should retype/repeat all the same info in that box as whats already filled out above (WAC/full name/DOB)?
    • If I am misunderstanding, then what exactly should I type?

    Thanks in Advance!

My fiancé said the same thing; it’s just an automated machine 😔

Our RFE was received 12th august; and we are still waiting for NOA2 😭

I called 212-620-3418 & got to speak to an actual person. She didn’t give me any info other than what was already on the websites (left me frustrated & in tears). However about 2 hours later, I received an email notification for RFE.

  8. Happy to finally report...we've been approved!!!!😀

    NOA1: 4/25/19

RFE: 9/10/29 (almost immediately after I called to inquire)

NOA2: 9/17/19 (received hard copy in the mail, no other update)

I was feeling like we were the last couple stuck in this phase, as this thread is not very active lately. But to anyone else that is still waiting...best of luck, hang in there, don't be discouraged!

I just called the California |Service Center yesterday the 800 number on the NOA1 they were very helpful. I find everyone on here tells you NOT TO CALL until its outside the frame but CALL THEM they are helpful! They will give you info and there is a seperate number for outside limit cases

Thanks for responding! I called the 800 on the NOA1 & it was just an automated system that gives the exact same info the websites do, which isn’t helpful. I have read on this site that people have managed to get an actual human on the line. But how?! I need help please 😓
