Oath completed this morning! It was very anticlimactic at the USCIS field office - they were doing what the officer called an "abbreviated" ceremony every half hour so it was just the oath in a big group and no other fluff. Got my certificate and now all I've got to do is the passport application, update SSA with my status, and register to vote.

Such a relief to be done with USCIS stuff now!

Update: they rescheduled me for the following week - hopefully that one goes ahead!

Spoke too soon - just got a status update. My oath has been de-scheduled "due to unforeseen circumstances" so now I'm back to 'Oath will be scheduled'.

What a bummer. I'm so disappointed! Hope I don't have to wait too long I already scheduled other stuff around this appointment. Oh well.

I changed my name and my Oath is 9/13 *not* in a courthouse. The IO said the judge signs the paperwork and I get it at the ceremony. I was worried the name change would delay everything but the IO said  no.
I filed 6/6, interview was 7/27 and oath 9/13... so within 3 months.
They said they hold ceremonies twice a month here. I wonder if it is different in every state because I read many posts about name changes having to be done at a courthouse, but at least here in Grand Rapids, not so much. Hmmm

So glad you don’t have to wait!! I think the court house oaths are for name change and I suspect they only happen once a month. While I was waiting at his interview, I asked the security people if they had any idea how often they have the ceremonies. He said typically they have them every Wednesday.

My husband is shortening his ridiculously long latin name (2 first names and 3 last. His parents also included his maternal grandmother’s last name). It unfortunately hasn’t made anything easy in the American system.

We also learned that we can’t go to social security the same day to update his name. The SS website says you have to wait 10 days after naturalization, thus delaying passport application.

Status updated today - they scheduled my oath and sent a notice. Looks like I'm set for September 13th for the oath! Exciting!

Had my N400 interview in Milwaukee today - super chill. I don't remember the civics questions I was asked lol but it was easy because I'd been sure to study up on them.

I brought with me originals of various docs I had uploaded as well as 2022 taxes, and up to date financials, but the officer didn't ask for any of that. All I had to hand over was my driver's license, passport, old and new green cards. He kept my old conditional green card.

So yeah, glad it was a simple matter and straightforward. I felt pretty nervous once I was in the waiting area even though I'd felt confident for weeks before 😆

Just waiting for my oath to be scheduled now!

It’s not really after everything we’ve been through.
We were hoping it was going to be 2 weeks earlier just to see if we could get a passport by the end of the year.
With the name change we read you have to wait 10 days to update social security, thus delaying a new drivers license and passport. A little disappointed to find out you can’t do it same/next day.

Just got our notice today. It’s for September 14th. But he’s shortening his name so he has to do his oath at the courthouse. We aren’t sure if that really makes a difference.

    My husband passed the interview!!
We had thought it would take about 20 minutes once called back, but it actually took over an hour. The letter does say to allow up to 2 hours.
His appointment was scheduled at 2pm, the officer was running 25 minutes behind. Once started the civics questions were super fast, but then the officer had several questions about the application and my husband’s immigration history. It was very confusing for the officer to understand. Back story: my husband was illegal as a minor, returned to Brazil as a minor, never deported, never pretended to be a citizen. His father has since naturalized but never sponsored his son. The officer asked if he had a copy of his father’s naturalization certificate (we do not since it wasn’t related to any of our applications). We had submitted a letter explaining all of this in all our prior files so why it came up in the interview I don’t really understand, but whatever.
Our finances were also scrutinized. My job confuses people. I travel for work and our taxes are complicated. But our permanent address and tax home is Wisconsin.
It’s a good thing I sent him in with ALL our original documents going back to K1.

I don’t remember if I ever posted that our ROC was approved about 3 weeks prior, so this was not a combo interview.

Glad it’s over. Hoping to get our oath date soon!!

We had quite an interesting experience last Thursday. Two immigration officers showed up at the house.
Our living situation is unusual, so we think they wanted to verify a few things. It was a coincidence we were even at the house, yet alone even in the state.
I’m a travel nurse and we use my parents’ house as our permanent address and tax home. It’s been that way since we got married. It’s where we keep all our things other than the clothes we take while I’m working elsewhere. My husband (the applicant) travels with me always. He’s with me wherever my work assignment is (typically 13 weeks). We wrote up an explanation of this in our original ROC packet and N400. We have a signed document by my parents that we pay rent and it’s our permanent address which was also included in both packets.
They asked for our IDs, took pictures of them with us holding them, asked if we had pictures of us together around the house (fortunately we have them and my parents display them), asked about work. They clearly read up on us and were very familiar with our file. The whole interaction was probably less than 5 minutes. They practically ran away while saying, “you’ll be contacted for your civics exam soon and the 751 and 400 will be processed at the same time.”

No updates on our cases yet.

Just that they were familiar with our case and asked very specific things. They were familiar that my husband is not employed while I’m working as a travel nurse. They brought up that I traveled to Canada by myself while I worked in Maine.

Just one final update in our journey -

My husband applied for his U.S. passport on 5/25. The status updated to "In process" on 5/31. Yesterday, it changed to "Approved" and today it is out for delivery, per the tracking number.

We paid for expedited service and faster shipping, and it's been exactly 7 weeks since we submitted the application.
