    Hello.
I want to share my experience and I hope might help. My birth certificate was late registered by 12 years, I have petitioned for my mother 2 times the first time my petition was denied because I took the RFE not very Sirius. I only submitted pictures and two affidavits and that was not enough. Then I submitted a second one last year this time got a RFE again for late birth registration . I took things more serious. If you dont have school records, medical records you must get at least a certification from school, church, and hospital that they dont have records . If you do have them then great for you !! You can send them along with translations.
Next is DNA they can not obligate you by law but they will between parenthesis "suggest you" to do it, believe me they are trying to help you with that hint.
I did the DNA test following their specification. (if you do DNA option make sure that if you send your documents first let them know in a cover letter that the lab will send them the results)
And I submitted again the affidavits since no secondary evidence is available like immunizations, census, hospital records are not available. If you have some but not all is a also a good idea to send affidavits from at least two family members adults at time of birth.
After all that my application got approved.
    I hope this helps .

They know the embassies are closed. I’d suggest starting the dna process as soon as you can anyway. There is some non-contact work still going on at the embassies. No need to delay.

The types of documentation available for secondary evidence are often specific to the country, and if it was normal for births not to be registered at that time then you can be sure many have faced this issue. Is there a local immigration forum or maybe Facebook page (for Ethiopians in the US, or similar) you can ask on?

Probably not an issue. His DOB wasn't material to her B-1/B-2 approval and it could be argued that it was an honest mistake (i.e. not willful): https://fam.state.gov/fam/09FAM/09FAM030209.html 9 FAM 302.9-4(B)(1)

A DS-160 is a visa application. The question is asking about a petition.

    That’s not a petition. The I-130 or I-129f is a petition.

What kind of visa are you here on CR1? Did you come on K1? If so have you adjusted status yet? Were you approved? Based on your post I am assuming you have a 2 year conditional greencard. You don't have to leave the country just file for divorce and save all the documents (tax returns, medical, etc..) from your marriage because you have to prove you entered the marriage in good faith. You still have to prove you were co mingling your lives before the divorce. You can still remove the conditions if you can prove you entered the marriage in good faith.

No, She cannot enter with a visitor visa and has intent to adjust status for a green card.

Since she cannot do the visitor visa and adjust status, there is only one path: apply for the I-130, and complete the consular processing, just like everyone else.

I get that you want her to be here faster but sometimes in life we don't get what we want. I know you're freaking out about being pregnant and birth and a baby. I get all of that. Been there, done that. Twice so far. But with immigration, you need to do things right, otherwise it will always come back and bite you in the behind.

So what if she comes a few months later after you gave birth. Big deal. You can tough out those months. You will not die. My mom came here 5 months after we had our daughter, and our son was 4 at the time. Everything will be just fine. Yes, it will be tired, sleepless nights, all of that. But everyone will survive. What doesn't kill you make you stronger...

mety reacted to pirogovak in Charleston, SC - my naturalization interview experience (3 yr rule, based on marriage)
Hey guys ! I just wanted to share my naturalization interview experience I had today. I am Russian married to American citizen, filed my N-400 application on June 1, 2013; fingerprints taken on June 13th, 2013; application was placed in line for interview scheduling - July 9th, 2013; received my appointment notice in the beginning of October, and interview was scheduled for October 29th, 2013 - for me to appear in Charleston USCIS office on 1 Poston Rd, Parkshore Center.
Couple of weeks before interview date I receive yellow notice stating I had to bring 'state issued drivers license or photo ID' to my interview. Well, duh. OK, overall my interview experience went GREAT. We arrived 10 minutes early (interview was scheduled for 9:40 am), went through security, then in the next room they took my interview notice, took my photo and fingerprints, I was asked to wait. About 10 minutes later officer appeared and called me in. I was asked to sit down, then raise my right hand and to his 'do you swear to tell the truth blah blah' I said 'I do'. Then he asked me to show my IDs, I gave him my green card and beginners permit. Then he proceeded to ask me: my full name, date of birth, where i was born, place of work, what position i hold at my job, my husband's name, his date of birth, our marriage date.I was asked to sign 2 photos I submitted with my application, with my regular day-to-day signature. Then this very nice officer Mansford proceeded to ask me questions from my submitted N-400 (do i belong to any clubs or organizations, do i belong to any terrorist organizations, have i ever registered to vote, have i ever claimed to be American citizen in writing or any other form, blah blah). I was over-prepared for the interview I must say, I brought originals and copies of all my pay stubs, our joint account statements, all the tax forms, even the photos of me and Neil over the years..can never be over prepared AND the ONLY originals of documents he asked to present were my passports (I showed him my Russian passport and my international passport) and my husband's birth certificate.
Then he asked if i was ready for my civics test, I was like 'Sure!'. I was asked 1. Who becomes president if president is no longer able to; 2. What was the main concern of US during the cold war; 3. What is 1 right or freedom from 1st Amendment; 4. Why did the colonists come to America; 5. Who is in charge of the executive branch; 6. There are 4 amendments to the Constitution about who can vote, describe one of them. Afterwards I was asked to read 'Who is the father of our country?' and to write 'Washington is the father of our country'. Aaand done! He said my application was approved, congratulated me, gave me a sheet of paper that said i was approved, escorted me back to the waiting room and asked to wait for someone to give me instructions about my oath ceremony. About 15 minutes later i was given said instructions. My oath ceremony is a week from my interview date, on November 5th, 2013.
If you guys have any questions, please ask and I will answer, I really hope this helps someone!

mety reacted to KayDeeCee in Form Expiration Dates Do NOT Matter. Pay Attention to the EDITION Dates.
People ask about form expiration dates all the time. The expiration date at the top of a form does not mean that form can no longer be used.
The OMB(Office of Management and Budget) expiration date only matters internally for the USCIS. That expiration date has nothing to do with whether or not it will be acceptable for you to use. The edition date is what matters. The accepted edition dates for the forms are listed on the site where the forms can be found and downloaded. If you click on 'Edition Date', the information about that particular form's edition date, and what forms are accepted are listed there.
Read more about it here > § 0.408 OMB control numbers and expiration dates assigned pursuant to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995.
A list of updated forms can be found on the USCIS website > https://www.uscis.gov/forms-updates

During my wife's interview on joint I 751/N400 my two year old son was with us. He still breastfeed and also he is a very active little one.  During the interview the USCIS officer allowed all three of us into her office.  She was very accommodating even when I was hinting if I should take out my son from her office once we  were done with the I 751 part.  She said she is fine for us to stay. Anyway  she had no problem that we stayed on the room for both the interviews.   My wife even breastfed my son right in front of the officer (my wife uses a cover for breastfeeding when in public) and she was OK with it.  During the N400 part of the interview to lessen any distraction I carried my son close to the door while my wife sat in front of the officer.  We were out of her office in less than 20 minutes.  No issues whatsoever.  The people at the local San Jose office thought my son was adorable.  These are people too who have families and do understand how it is to have a baby/toddler.  But anyway this was just our experience so YMMV.
